More questions

Post by lipple »

If I am annoying, please let me know and I will desist. Also, if there is a reference that I could use to find out these answers, I would happily go that route instead of plaguing the forums with my threads.

Here is a new batch of questions, in no particular order:

1. How can one display the FPS on-screen? I think this information used to be in the network window, but it isn't anymore.

2. What are the differences between races?

3. Are there any 4x250 players out there?

4. How do constructions work? It sounds like a great idea!

5. Is there a way to see what missions have already been completed once they are taken off the journal?

6. When I alt-tab out of the game and back, the gamma drops considerably (probably down to default); it then resets itself back to my setting as soon as I touch the slider in the game configuration window. Is this a known issue?

7. Any considerations when making new players, or when advancing through levels? In particular, I am wondering if any branches of the skill tree are broken or significantly underused.

Thanks for all the help. So far I am having a lot of fun with the game, and it looks even better than I remembered!

glad to hear ;-)

1. fraps
2. apearance/lore and soon walk/run/sit animations (in some cases that is)
3. lot of ppl who has multiple 250 in skills
4. ep2 ones we building ?. diggers det mats, crafters turn them to building blocks
5. nope. btw, mission timer starts to work after you remove it from journal
6. using nvidia card and opengl, dont experience that
7. range is somewhat hard but doable, you need to do lot of crafting/digging yourself to feed that gun. rifle/bowrifle works almost.

No, some of us linger around the forums to have something to do, answering questions qualifies at something when you're B@W ;) .
You might want to check the beginner's guides and the newcomer board for more questions and answers though ;) .

As of now, purely visual. They also determine what type of land you start in. The animations are also currently being worked on, so a Zorai won't sit/run/stand (maybe) like a Tryker :) .
lipple wrote:3. Are there any 4x250 players out there?
I'm not quite sure what you mean by that... If you mean someone who's completed all four branches, I think it's pretty safe to say no. The branches usually split each 50 lvls (for example magic at lvl 21 splits into offensive and defensive magic, and at lvl 50 into defensive affliction and healing... not to mention crafting that has as many branches as there are items to craft ;) . But some of the players have mastered one branch (none the crafting branch I believe, but I may be wrong).

If it's a normal mission, there's not way to know you completed it, since you're allowed to take it as many times as you wish. If it's a special mission that has given you an entry in your Encyclopedia, the E shortcut should show you which you you've completed ;) .

Welcome. The different races are the same in abilities. The appearances and home regions are different. Jungle for the Zorai, lakelands for the Tryker, desert for Fyros and forest for Matis. The regions differ slightly in population and offer slightly differing challenges. Possibly the largest difference is that Zorai and Fyros traditionally worship the Kami, while Trykers and Matis owe allegiance to the Karavan - however, one can change that religio-political stance easily by doing missions for the other side.
3. Are there any 4x250 players out there?
The skill trees open up at level 51, 101, 151, and 201?, so there are alot more areas than 4 to level up to 250.

actually there are real differences between the races just seems most ppl havent realised.. taken from patch notes #83

. The protection system (which is not the same thing as the resistance) has also been reworked:
- All homins share a common base protection
- Protection values specific for each civilization are added to the base values on specific magic types: 10% for generic damages, 20% for natural damages, 0% for all others

If you meant "are there any players that have maxed all the skills? -- probably because right now you may just see the main 4 areas -- the anser is not as far as I know, and I don't think someone has, since they branch at different stages.

On the contrary, if you ask me if someone has mastered one branch of each area, the answer is yes, I know a few, including yours truly. I even know some players that have mastered the 4 mage branches, or the 5 harvesting ones (not in this server, but soon enough)

But, as a side note, play as you wish. If you hurry too fast at the top, you may not enjoy the trip. Your own call. It really depends on you, I know players that will enjoy the game after having several 250s, and others who raise to 250 in 3 weeks of gaming and quit.

Noone has maxed even half of all the skills.

As far as the gamma issue is concerned, what video card do you use?

many cards have different settings for when opengl is in use or not, and maybe its restoring desktop settings but forgetting to return to the opengl settings, these cards also usually have utilities to tinker with this

i have nvidia 6800 and use opengl and never saw any problem like this, however the latest video drivers dropped my fps down to like 20 from over 60 and i had to roll back the drivers

The game relies on yoru processor. You'll most likely get the same performance on a geforce fx 5200 as a 6800

I upgraded to an amd64 4000

in any case the graphics engine for this game is amazing, reminds me of the quake3 engine in its efficiency, it is far superior to other landmark games like eq2(why is this so slow?), gw(wow improved a little...), and wow(cartoony?)

I have the version 72.14 drivers installed, try that and your FPS will pick up.
That driver version was recommended(off the books) to me by Turenkarn (the GM)

anyways I have all the settings on the maximum and am loving it

Thanks for the answers, guys and girls!

4x250 meant a character that hit 250 in each tree, regardless of branch. However, now I am a little confused. Once you pick a branch, can you go back and change it, or improve in a different branch simultaneously?
