Let me start by putting my relationship with SoR into perspective first, been playing since beta, got a one year subscription at launch. Played SoR for RP, exploration of the world and lore, and for the posibility to influence the progress of the game.

I have been on and off SoR in recent time, since I found the game wanting in what I found interesting and what Nevrax had said the game would be/become (no, I didn't expect them to give us everything, it is rare for games to do that).

I have tried to attend every event out there, player and Nevrax ones, since these are the moments that carry the game forward in huge steps. Of course the day to day playing of the game was an enjoyment too, but events was made SoR something among the MMO games.

Now, as I said earlier, I have found my enjoyment of playing very low and have therefore been looking for something, anything, to keep me going. To me R2 was the answer, but as it turned out it won't be released until next year. So I had to look for something else and the launch of episode 2 sounded really interesting, it appeared to contain a lot of the content I wanted from SoR.
Sadly it didn't turn out far worse, the behavior of the leaders etc. went off on a wild tangent compared to what was laid out in the lore, and what I have experienced during my stay on Atys.
And the only way to be part of the current event would go against what I attempted to roleplay. It wasn't the PvP, it wasn't the turn of story line (it can all be part of something we have to discover), it wasn't the unobtainable rewards in the event based on what 'honour points' I could achive.
No, it was that Nevrax had effectively forced us into two boxes (remember those from another post?) kami and karavan. And the worst part was that there would be no roleplay at all, zero, zip, nada...
What is the point of a RPG if the only RP is between players, and not with the world and the story line as the game was intended and sold as?

P.S.
I did go to the PvP area today, completely against what my character is about, since it wouldn't matter being the last day here. I do think that I owe it to Nevrax and the players to at least try it out.
Did I enjoy it then? No, not really. The most fun I had was chatting in around and in tells.
To Chandra: Sorry for chaseing you off into a kitin :(
To Dangarhara (who killed me too many times to count): Those chats while dead was fun. Due to all my deaths I was able to beat your highscore in Tetris on the gameboy, the kitin stole from you for me, sorry. :D You can have the gameboy back when I get my blueberry pie back. :)

Well as i said to Groom when he left yesterday I can say I blame you.

I myself am thinking about it and probably would if I had somewhere to go.
I'm still waiting for Nevrax to clear up a few things for me but I have little hope left...

Goodbye Lien and take care.

It's frustrating to see threat/scare tactics being used in a public forum that new players read :(

I didn't read the last two pages, but how many times have people mentioned the new players coming back? That number is going to be the higher one in some guilds. In Melinoe, I'm aware of one that was back on again last night (Ambika), and none that have left.

Will they stay this time? Are the players into ganking behaviour a good long term prospect? Do they undermine the vision of the game as originally presented? Can Nevrax keep up with the big boys with huge budgets or would they be better off pursuing a niche well and getting on with the increasingly good word of mouth they were getting up until now?

Questions questions...

OOC:

I’m not interested in FvF game-play, coming from MxO (The Matrix Online game) and hating the experience of that game, I don’t see me playing along those terms again. I’m more interested in Rp-ying where I can have fun and generate a fictional life for my characters. I think I’ve accomplished this in SoR and still have a long way to develop. When in the game I am usually Trixie, not at all the real person behind the character. Trixie has been called flighty and even a bimbo, (I wonder why?) but that is Trixie, not the real me. I say this because some people take this game too serious and forget to shut off their comps if they are not having fun.

E2 is just a race, very entertaining but not what I as a player want out of this game, so- my character has stayed out of the old lands; Trixie is not a religious individual and she refuses to go on a contest, kill other homins, risk her life by harvesting, or crafting temples for capricious Gods that push her into their personal war.

Don’t misunderstand my view of E2 as being negative. I find that this is a great game and E2 is good for those that like that style of play. E2 is not for low level players and it really is not for all players. Having the notion that Nevrax will thrill every player is not being realistic, this will never happen. Before E2 I still had fun and enjoyed the grind. I don’t see why I still can’t. In the long run this will also die-down and we will get use to it just like the heal nerfs.

I understand the point of view of the players who have been here since beta and sympathize with their disappointment. Been there done that! But one lesson I’ve learned from doing beta testing is that all games eventually change. One never takes under consideration that like players, staff also changes and they bring along new ideas and views that change the game we knew back in beta times. Some content may have change other we are still waiting for, but the core of the game is the same. Let’s not forget that in the end this is just a game and the main goal is to have fun. If fun is no longer the option than I see no reason to pay the game fee.

PvP’ers got what they wanted, let them play; after this is dead it will be our turn, the Rp players. I’m sure R2 will give us this opportunity. It’s sad to hear that players will be leaving the game due to this event, and yet the temples aren’t even up. Those that leave will give way to the opposite side to win. The war is not about guilds, it’s about religion, and influencing the storyline in the direction you as a player want it to go. The FvF zone is where strong fighters, smart tactics, under handling and faction unanimity play a big role. Who knows how long this is going to take, who can predict what is going to happen. I plan to stay and see; the story line of Atys and the state of affairs is without doubt the best I’ve seen in any game.

To a limited degree I agree with you but it remains disappointing that no amount of RP or opinion, whether IC or OOC, whether at official or unofficial events, will make the blindest bit of difference to the steamroller of plot.

That is profoundly unsatisfying.
