We can't.

The problem children will happily kill him for the honour and ignore his message.

We're _incapable_ of forcing anything on any of them by any sort of method. Not the same the other way around though

Well, I may be running around in a PvP-zone, but that doesn't mean that they have to kill me?

I'm unarmed, unarmoured and I think I've made my intentions quite clear quite loudly. So if they choose to kill me for the so-called 'honor points' they hope to get for me, it is entirely up to them to do so.

I survived Patch 1. :) I'm not so sure about Episode 2.

I am so new to this game, can we really be forced to PvP? I thought it was purely optional?

It is optional. The reference to 'forced to be part of PvP' (and similar), means that if you want to access some of the content of the game, you can only do that in PvP areas. For instance digging mats for the temple construction.
Further more being in a PvP areas doesn't mean that you will get killed, only that you can. The PvP prime roots are quite safe, although some PvP happens down there now and then.

Yes its optional. Unfortunately they tied part of the evolving story to PvP. You can skip it but that would be like skipping a chapter in a book. Sure you'll find out how the story ends but you missed part of the story... That doesn't make it "purely" optional in my book.

One thing to remember with Ryzom (since you're new) is its always evolving. It will change. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse but usually just enough to keep you playing. The forums can paint a very ugly picture that is so different from in-game. Out-of-game we tend to voice our hopes/dreams/concerns/demands in an exaggerated fashion. In-game... we're a blast to hang with (honest!!)!

Ah, that makes a bit more sense. Sooooo, if one doesn't like PvP; or even to the point that one abhors PvP: Just boycott all the PvP areas. It doesn't sound like they are needed to have fun. The building of the temple thing sounds like it is directly PvP related, so I'd avoid that too. Just because I'm a member of a "country" at war, doesn't mean I have to agree with it or participate.

Oh and, if anything, it makes things more fun for folks like me -- a member of the quiet objectors -- huddling together telling stories of back when the homins were sane and didn't kill one another. Sneaking into PvP areas for some odd task, hoping to avoid getting whacked by the first homin that sees you. I agree that the game won't always go the direction I want; I'll just make the most of it.

Better yet, become a member of the underground resistance. Destroy the materials that will be used to construct these Temples of War. Work directly against the factions that sponsor such a war, but do so by this peaceful demonstration, not by going to war yourself. If there are no materials, neither temple can be completed.

Think about it.

Can 't say anything else that I am very diappointed about how this episode 2 thing has started off.
Know it has been stated several times before, but at least I'm going to say what i mean..
I went to the "new land/old land" last night...excited about doing some digging, as i'm not much into pvp.
After getting killed a couple of times, tracking sources to dig, I find out that the whole land is a desert. Big disappointment again, since I'm tryker and only dig lake/pr.
Tried to join in for som pvp'ing as well, but find this totally stupid...since i'm fighting my "friends from before yesterday".

So, sorry guys...but this is really not what i wanted from this game...

To put it in a little perspective, it's been nearly a year since we had any kind of major event involving missions and such that even suggested at changing the world. In fact, there's only been two that I recall since release. A big invasion last year (December?) and the opening of a portal a few months later.

Many of the players have been hanging on for that year hoping to finally have their patience rewarded with a storyline that finally starts progressing. For those that like PvP, the current Episode 2 content fulfills that need. For those that dislike PvP, being told that their option is to either participate in PvP or sit out of the first major event like this after so many months is a very bitter pill to swallow.

I think had we been experiencing a constant stream of content such as this since release, some of it being PvP and some of it not, the tone of the boards right now might be drastically different.
