Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

Here is the point of all problems and missunderstandings. Some play a game and some want to participate in a virtual movie or book.
I agree, I think this is actually the main point to understand.

No-one can force to someone else they playing styles. Some people just play this game for fun and some other people follows the game story. Playing style direction of these two are different. One is freedom to do anyting what is possible and other is walking the ready made path what development team is creating.

Story is one kind of content. PvP is also just one kind of content. But there is also some other kind contents what aren't in this game. Example owning land, building houses, creating player towns and structures, farming the land for materials, creating decorations for characters home, air and underwater combat, opportunity create adventures, crawling in dungeons, siege a castle and so on.

Well i have to confess that i am a converted one :) I played in the past with numbers. I admit that i bought dualleech rings or 19% HP leech pikes on ebay.
I told myself that i never get the top gear by drops. So i builded me my dream char and it was really cool. At least for a while. But everyone who played this way once knows whats awaiting you there - emptyness. That time i stopped playing at all.
The hype about WoW brought me back online. Lots of emotes, pubs, huge cities and what else brought me back. And really those features where there, but nobody used them. Since i couldnt play with numbers anymore i had to leave. I dont care anymore about 5 or 8% of this or that stats. By accident i came to Ryzom and liked it from the start. You can have top gear here but you are not lost with little lower gear on Atys. Well, i am looking to have an amp with best stats available, but i dont care if i can only get a 82/82 or if i have only mats to craft a 97/75 healer amp. Same goes for everything else. I prefer a beige vest although the blue one would have some percent more stats. Never again with numbers ;)

Yes, yes and yes :) Exept underwater combat. I have an underwater phobia since WoW ;) Farming ? Oh yes. Still have hope that we will get something like that after episode 2. Every war ends , even on Atys. Paragliding ? Oh yes. We Trykers are masters of air and wind. But here has the gamedesign a flaw. Regions are closed maps. If we could climb mountains or fly we could see the emptyness behind the walls. Kind of dungeons and adventures will be possible with R2..

Sorry if I seem a bit confused in all this. I am trying to get a grip on how the impending faction war will alter my playing style.

Can a player just ignore the whole thing and continue with his or her current playing style?

Will being neutral cause one to loose access to areas?

If I craft an item, is that item going to be available to someone with greater or lesser faction than me either Kami or Karavan?

If I craft an item and give it to someone who has a negative or positive faction (either way) cause me to loose or gain faction?

I have read of the PvP flag, is this for real? If so is there going to be a I just want to have a good time, leave me out of it flag?

*continuing ranting and raving post again... random thoughts to follow*

This is just an open stream of concious typing. :)

I'm still just as confused as before. Perhaps a bit more. After spending some time out of game *yes, it was painful* browsing around a bit, I still was unable to find any of the answers I was seeking. Yes I am one of the alleged "fanbois." I love this game dearly and was even quoted in one of the very early newsletters that was published many a moon ago. Will even go as far as saying that my little Tryker was in all of the beta stages, including fb, and I didn't even fight to get my Elder title simply because I didn't see the value when I could be ingame gaining many more new ones ;-) But I am jealous when I see some one do the Elder breakdance ;-) *ok fine... your right... i should of fought for it but was too lazy too... happy?*

Only reason that I mention any of that is to curb the thoughts that I haven't been on Atys long enough to actually understand what is what despite my low post count.

Personally this entire war thing would of been much easier to digest if there was a leading story into it. Regardless of what the box says, it seems way to rushed, hence my asking if it is an attempt to make the game more popular. Which it seems to be. I could go farther on that, but will decline to at this point.

Personally I prefer to have a reason to fight for a cause, not just because it is the fame I was born with. And yup, it is easy enuogh to change factions simply with a few hours of missions *of which i may be in the minority to actually enjoy doing missions*

While true this all may only last for a short period, at what cost? It seems that people are already leaving. That also is part of my concern... people leaving without atleast waiting to see what happens. Those that are may be missing out on a great part of the game that bunches of us are hesitant on... If it is indeed an attempt to bring new blood to the game, great, but, if if it is at the cost of current established players, it would most certainly be counter prductive. Then again, I'd be willing to guess that 80% of those that are now bailing will be back in short time...

I still have lots of un-answered questions... but I can some it up in one simple one or two...

What benefit does faction have, and why should we fight a battle just to fight?

Goofy

After the speech of the Karavan yesterday its more clear to me now. Your faction decides for whom you start to harvest and fight to build the temples. It was said that it needs harvesters and guards to obtain those materials.

While players have the option not to fight while doing this, it is possible. How will the players handle this ? I guess there will be at least random battles.

If you dont want to paticipate in the new story, then i guess you can play as you did until today.

Well, i will wait and see hows it evolving. How much PvP will happen ? How many players will keep away from the new stuff ? Is it possible to continue playing my style of game ?
