Good evening,
I would like to ask u for the meaning of "fame" in SoR. Currently I have fame at Pyros and Kami 100;100 and certainly at Karavan and Renegat -100;-100.
Meanwhile Renegati keeps attacking me even in places where I had a safe zone previously (in their village); I dont see any positive effect neither at Pyr race, nor at Kami race.
Does fame have any possitive impact? Isnt it useless to do quests, if the only thing I can see is that I have a safe zone les?

Thanks

I've heard that having 100 fame with all races allows you to buy a pick at any city for 1000 dappers! Also, one needs a certain level of racial fame in order to undertake the rite quests from the various bartenders (like the Zorai bar-hopping rite or the Matis sunset trip). Otherwise, the advantages of good racial fame seem rather intangible to date. However, fame above zero with tribes allows one to do their missions, so there could be potential benefits there. I wouldn't be surprised if there are tribal missions that no one has ever done. Which leads me to the question, are all of the rites and encyclopedia entries accounted for? or are there supposed to be rites which are still undocumented?

Re: fame - efect
Civilization fame lets you sell your stuff to NPC for more and buy NPC items for less in town if I am correct.
And wow, is that how the game looks like in high graphical settings?

Having good fame with any tribe/civilization allows you to do certain restricted missions. Some, like the Welcomer missions only require that you can accept the mission before the tribe kills you because your fame with them is so low. Others, from messengers corporals, etc. require that your fame be non-negative before you can take them. The ones of real value(at least some of them), the Rite missions require higher fame. 1st tier rites (for levels 1-50) seem to require at least a fame of 30 with that group. 2nd tier Rites (levels 51-100) require a fame of 38, IIRC. Rites can give you permanent boosts to some stats, new abilities, crafting plans, or special powers. Some, however, like the Tryker digging Rite for increased source time, actually make things more difficult, and cannot be un-done or turned off (some may like it, but I have only heard "OMG, WHY DID I DO THAT TO MYSELF?!?!). The crafting Rites are all at least mildly handy.
Having 0 fame with a civilization means you sell things to the NPCs for half price, and you buy things from them for double cost. Having 100 fame means you buy and sell for base cost, which is twice as good for you in both cases.

This was changed recently. Now you can't do welcomer missions anymore if your (global) fame with the tribe is below -66.thebax wrote:Some, like the Welcomer missions only require that you can accept the mission before the tribe kills you because your fame with them is so low.

Ah, kk. Shame that.sidusar wrote:This was changed recently. Now you can't do welcomer missions anymore if your (global) fame with the tribe is below -66.
Re: fame - efect
I know, I can't say I agree with it either. This makes it impossible to raise your fame with a tribe that you have below -66 global with. Whatever happened to homins being able to choose who they want to side with?thebax wrote:Ah, kk. Shame that.
Also, this means it's impossible, for example, for a Matis to raise their fame with the Ancient Dryads out of the kill-on-sight zone, yet the Ancient Dryads do have Matis members (NPC). How does that fit together exactly? Same for the Fyros and the Lawless, and probably other races and tribes too.
