These are my thoughts, and have equipped my asbestos suit. This is a rambling and ranting post.
I am not an avid fan of PvP... but I see it's purpose in game. I am not fully educated on what all of this impending FvF stuff is about. I would rather spend my time in-game enjoying Atys then out of it posting here and reading 6000 pages of posts. However, the recent events force me to do so.
Being the leader of a small guild, we already have 3 members looking for an alternative game. Why... becasuse they no longer see the future of Ryzom. We are also a multi-race guild. Seems like the FvF junk will not allow our own guild members to team, or assist each other in FvF areas. These members do have merit in their actions.
What ever happened to the war against the kitins? Is all this PvP a lame attempt to make this game more popular?
I just don't get it anymore, while I still love this game, where is any explanation for they way things are headed?
Is there a future for Saga of Ryzom, or all of those who are against these changes wasting our time?

Unfortunately I'm sure you'll need the asbestos suit.
You have really good questions though and I hope Nevrax realizes they need to get around to answering them because so many players want to know.

Re: Going over the obvious again...
Let me tell you this, i seen several discussions about it, its just has to stop.
I personally hate PvP and even PvE, i have violence as a whole, i'm totally tried of all MMORPG involving battles and mages all again and again. But ryzom for that matter Atys is different it depends on the players for the evolvement, craftic, items and discoveries.
I have a poor computer with the lowest specs possible on a gamming computer (Pentium 3, 256 ram and Nivida 32 mb 4800 MMX or so, and a poor 56 k dialup) a total lagging and stressful experience...But i still find atys rather interesting especially Crafting and foraging, its unique and fascinating, it intrigues me when I try different stats out.. its like a cooking trying and making my own recipes.
Personally i don't like what's going on, but we have to be tolerant to the storyline. Saga Of Ryom, is an online fantasy with prewritten(to an extend) out comings but they are affected by players. We have to flow and blend in the theme and bare what's happening. If you accept things with your best smile it wouldn't feel that bad.
Assume Saga of Ryzom as a animated series, many things happen.. even conflicts with homis, ins few months the next chapter the conflict of guilds, then when the homins confront the kittens in future.. after all that happened all the forces unified and fight along side for the common cause.
If you look at the dev screenshots popping in and out, its not the end of Karavan or Kami after this war, only one will step down a little and take measures to guide their homins better.
Come on guys, enough is enough, just enjoy the game the feeling will be truly exciting when we all gather together towards our kitten enemies.

Re: Going over the obvious again...
Fame is not race. Therefore i dont see why guildmembers should not play together in future.
Nobody will be forced into the upcomming FvF actions. Although those probably will not paticipate in the comming episode fully. Lets wait and see...
The comming FvF contains also misssions for foragers and crafters. Assumed those foraging missions (to earn honor points) will not be combined with digging in FvF areas without being able to disable PvP flag this is something i am looking forward to.
I dont see why someone who doesnt like PvP will not be able to play PvE in future.
Until now the whole war was *only* roleplaying the present lore. Nothing wrong with it. The return of Jena and the Karavan vs. Kami conflict was always there. No need to be upset that the game evolves in this direction. It was foreseeable.
If there is landing an invasionarmy to take over Atys, then this is nothing else then PvE for me. And off course they found their allies in Matis and Tryker. Most of us enjoyed the bandits event. That we have the possibility to choose side is sort of freedom but needs a lot af maturity.

Yes thats something ive been thinking about too , though im not so confident that it will be out of those areas or in "safe" conditions (PvP flag = off)
Back on topic - You can be any race you like its only Faction (Kami/Kara) that counts , not so hard to fix that with afew missions , can mess your spawns ofc but thats the price you pay for going against the grain

Just because the change was foreseeable does not make it any less upsetting for some. I think that if a game progresses in any direction that it no longer is fun to play, the players have but one of two directions to take. 1. Fight = Try to maintain the game by petitioning the Devs to keep the game as they have come to enjoy it. Or 2. Flight = Leave Ryzom to play something that is more enjoyable to them and their gaming style. I guess there is a third choice and that would be stay and continue playing and not enjoying oneself, but this seems counter to the definition (or mine anyway) of game.

My definition of game is rather broader.mimir1 wrote:Just because the change was foreseeable does not make it any less upsetting for some. I'm curious, how much broader can it get than "An activity providing entertainment or amusement"?madnak wrote:My definition of game is rather broader.
