thanks

Early on there is not a need to be proficient or collect different weapons ;)

Later this will matter as your abilities will branch out to varoius figthing type of skills. First the Mele and Range fighting. Then the 1 handed, 2handed and close combat, and finally the specific weapon type specialties. There is no need to keep various weapons at early stages I would suggest the biggest fastest hardest hitting 2handed weapon early on. When your abilities get higher and you get credit for using various different weapons then its worth the time and effort getting and using the various different types. :D

Trust me I'm proficient in figthing with all weapons and no weapons ; and still master of none :p

I would say take advantage of the branches not splitting.

Maybe all 3 aren't necessary, but if you carry say a pike and a sword, you should be able to pick which one is appropriate for creatures that have physical resistances and still get XP in the same skill.

I agree completely with sehracii. Now is the time you really can benefit from having different physical damage types. Start learning which animals are resistant to which things while still using the same attack skill.
