Magic, is there any hints about the type of magic we are using? Or rather, is there any proof the spells aren't divine gifts from the gods?
And when I'm at it - what do the homins know about technology? The blipping and blopping in Karavan's vessels could be seen as magic by primitive people. Any ideas how advanced homins are?

Re: Divine or Arcane
Looking at the sap usage, I say the spells are arcane. Also because a spell will not be refused if I (for example) turn away from my godess.

According to the lore, the Trykers are the experts of wind energy (hence all the windmills around in Tryker, although I wonder what they do with the energy.)
The matis manipulate the plants, just look at their treehouses in Yrkanis.
I am not sure where that places them, but it may be hard to compare, as Atys doesnt have any metals, so all technology comes from natural resources.

Tryker are masters in using windcraft. Although you can see everywhere our windmills, i am not sure what we do with them. Maybe we pump air into our submarine appartments.
Matis are kind of bio engineers.
Magic is, as far as i know, a gift of the Kamis. Kamimasters and sentinels use the same magic as we do. I am not sure if healing is also a gift of the Kami. Homins do have power in their hands naturally. We use it to prospect and to cast spells. But i really think that we learned the spells from the Kami.
Something a Karavan caster should think about

Re: Divine or Arcane
my understanding was homins were very advanced but lost it all in the swarm and are now in process of re-learning the knowledge lost

Re: Divine or Arcane
The Zorai are obsessed with magnetic and electrical effects, pretty tricky without easy use of metals
, the Trykers are into wind (fluid/mechanical effects in RL terms i guess), the Fyros do fire - which makes them look the most primitive - and the Matis do biotechnology.
All have access to magazine fed projectile weopons.. and very little other "high-tech" stuff from the players point of view.
The Kami may have introduced homins to magic, but they dont 'own' it, and it has no links to divine or supernatural entities - not even Ma-Duk, the immaterial god of the Kami. As it is derived from personal knowledge and the ability to manipulate existing forces in the world, Magic would fit into the "arcane" category if such were relevant to Atys.

Re: Divine or Arcane
I guess homins learned form nature a lot. Kincher and Goari do have a electrical attack. And i think we learned about ranged weapons from the Kipesta. Fyros learend maybe from Ozyx how to use fire and some of the affliction spells we might have learned from the plants.iwojimmy wrote:pretty tricky without easy use of metals![]()

Re: Divine or Arcane
I don´t know exactly were in the lore it is, but it´s stated somewhere that:
Metals are unknown to the Homins. The Karavan are the only ones that use metals in their technology. They sort of introduced these "strange materials" to Atys.
Wich supports my pet-theorie, that the GOO is some sort of allergic reaction to, or poisoning by these foreign Materials to Atys.
The Magic was there before the Karavan came, taught by the Kami to the Homin.
And the Karavan in the beginning disguised their technolgy as Magic, see the fabled "rainbow"-transporters. And the "Dragon". What else better than a blaster-firing Spaceship, to inspire a Dragon-Myth in the hearts of "primitive" peolple. The Homins simply didn´t know how else to interpred these strange happenings. Then the Ship crashed somehow and lies now burried somewhere in the Primeroots, hence the Karavan don´t want the Homins snooping around down there.
Ah, I love these threads.
