Hi guys,

please contact our Customer Support via email (http://www.ryzom.com/?page=support_email) about client crash issues. It would be a painful process to try helping you with these problems through this message board, because it may well be necessary to exchange some emails (dxdiags, client.cfg files) to identify the cause for the crashes.

Hi all.

Follow up to my previous post on this thread. I have been in contact through email and ingame with support and have tried the following with no success.

Disabling Sound (Can disable ingame or using Ryzom Config found in Ryzom folder)
Ryzom Recovery (within Ryzom game folder)
Run in OpenGL NOT Auto or Direct3D (use Ryzom Config)
Checked all drivers are up to date.

By all means try these, but for me, they did not work.

What has been successful for me is a deletion and reinstallation of the game. No crash after 7 hours play. I had been crashing every 5mins-2hrs prior.
Interestingly when i first installed the game (2nd oct) i had 6 hours or so of uniterrupted play, then the game froze. All i could do was reboot the machine and ever since that reboot i had the access violation issue. Now, im no techie so excuse my thoughts, but it feels to me that somewhere in the freeze and reboot i corrupted a file or something. If that is the case a reinstall may solve your problem.

My concern now is that if and when the game next freezes and i have to reboot i will have to reinstall. And whilst i dont mind doing this occasionally a) it is not a fix and b) as the patches get bigger so does the reinstallation time.

I was absolutely fine until after the patch. Then I get access violation and straight machine lock-ups.

my experience so far....

Love the game but suffered varying frequency crashes and "laggy" performance even after the patch.

Action taken:
Deinstalled all video drivers and updated with latest from web;
Reduced all video settings to bare min;
Set up port forwarding on Linksys router;
Disabled sound;

Result - none :(

Then the game season changed and i saw some improvement, reduced frequency of the "pls wait" and zero rubber banding in 2 10hr sessions of play. Crashes still continued tho. Did the GMs do something??

Last night did some digging on web and found info like this:
"Check your ACPI and change it to Advanced Configuration and Power
Interface (ACPI) PC. That helped for me, no crackling sound anymore. Go
to Start-->Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Computer
Management-->Device Manager-->Computer. Then you have to update the
standard ACPI driver to advanced." - related to crackling sound!

Today, did the above, no difference, game crashed 3x (1x access violation nd 2x complete freeze) in an hour and was still vry "laggy".

Action:

Ripped out sound card, removed all related drivers. Re-instated onboard sound in bios, downloaded all new sound drivers and installed.
Defragged hard drive.
Removed port forwarding options from router.

Result:

Wow..amazing sound and zero "laggyness"! - Thought I must be imagining this so ran straight back to Zora, through gate into city center, smooth as you like, no pause, no lag just the expected millisecond screen refresh here nd there.
Right, straight back to jungle to let some spells fly - ahhhhhh total lockup, total 10 mins play.

Action:

Reboot PC, ran Rycom config, set all settings to normal, found EAX enabled, turned it off and enabled the "software" option. Back into game.....

Result:

Even better, sound is pukha :( nd video performance also. Ran around jungle like a nutter I was soooo happy. 5 mins..still going kicking some Mek butt. 10 mins, waheyyyy we're still going............. 15 mins.....waving hands in air \o\ |o| /o/ we're still going....AARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH log off we wanna reboot!!! wtf, what u doing to me.............

So, who'd have thought 1 weee sound card could be the problem (I hope)....we'll see but certainly things improved 100 fold, I hope this will help some others.

As for the crashes - - - - - - - - - WATCH THIS SPACE.

I have ATI mobility Radeon 9800 card, i didn't get any crashes while i was on the newbie island, but after i entered the mainland i'm getting access violation at least once an hour, contacted support in game and they were very, very helpful and friendly like in no other game. I tried all their advices but still the problem persists. It seems like all people with ATI cards have access violation error

mrozzy wrote:Well, I had my share of crashes back in beta, and it took me months to figure out where they came from.

I can tell you this: 99,9% of the crashes are related to malfunctions of your own computer system. Games like this ask a lot of a computer, if something isn't working 100% fine it can happen that a game like this crashes.

Acces violations are r/w errors to the memory. This can be caused by:

- Bad memory blocks
- Bad sectors on your harddisk
- Harddisk overheating
- CPU problems (overheating, general cpu faults)
- Errors in the FSB communication
- Insufficiant power supply
- Electric power fluctuations
- Memory from different brands and/or different speed

Check out your system and replace parts if needed, in most of the cases the problem will be solved.

PS: I reduced the amount of crashes (and even bluescreens) from about one every 3-10 min to 0 in 1 month.

I did all that on my 6-months old pentium 4 and I even used the system restoration windows xp offers and wiped the whole c: to get the PC into the state of original delivery (files are on d: in my case ;) ). Then I did upgrade all drivers and reinstalled/patched ryzom.

Crashes like before. :(

same here - brand new system, latest drivers/Direct X etc and crashes every 15-20 mins at worst. At best I get 3-4 hrs without a crash.

This has only been since the latest patch.

Before that crashes were few and far between. And the error messages are very similar to all the others posted on here about Access Violations. I strongly doubt that this is down to hardware and that its more likely buggy code that hasn't been properly tested before release.

Still in my free month but I'm damned if I'm going to start paying unless the software is dramatically improved in the next patch (which better be soon!) - and I LOVE the game - thats how annoying it is.
