I enjoy them immensely. And here's a humorous idea I'd love stolen from some of my favorite past games. For achieving [insert something here] mages could get a spell which is effective only at certain times. For example......


1) during the 2-3 days around halloween, casting the spell would have random chance of making the mob turn into a mob with jack-o-lantern head who would run around doing silly things including exploding pumpkin head on dying.

2) Around the december holidays, the spell would turn mob into killer snowman.

3) easter - well with aplogies to fluffy bunnies guild, but killer white rabbit from Monty Python works.

4) Pick one more Mexico's day of the Dead - skeleton

Perhaps this should only be on a particular mob (gibbai - snowman / frahar pumpkin / gibani - bunny / bandits - skeleton) and of course to extend it more than 2 or 3 days would ruin the game immersion experience. Might even bring back a few old players just for the kick who may get reinvigorated.
