Let me start by saying that I like the game so far. But that being said it won't take long to be somewhat repetitive. I think a couple of things that will be a deciding factor for me continuing to play are:
1) Missions: I love missions. I like the goals and focus on story. I can't think of many, if any, MMORPGs that have no story driven missions. The missions in the game right now are generic and don't impel me to take them for any reason.
2) Dungeons - Can be caves, ruins, etc that can be accessed and enjoyed by all levels not just High levels (prime roots). There is a lot of outdoor area but even a couple of dungeons can make a difference.
Presently, I see socializing, harvesting, crafting, fighting in outdoor areas are all there is to do right now. That's fine now but not for the long haul. Definitely need story.
Probably the first really big change will come with missions. Hopefully that is in the not too distant future. But adding an interesting mission/story structure is, no doubt, a daunting task. I don't see that coming very soon.
Reasons to continue
Re: Reasons to continue
Thay've said that Ryzom will be the first MMO with a "Storyline that matters." The first storyline quests will be included with Patch 2.
Re: Reasons to continue
Guess our characters will be able to handle anything by the time patch 2 is released I really think I will like the story. The game has a lot of puzzles - NPC groups/factions around, how the planet works, the relationship between the flora/fauna with the planet in general, the Kami and their relationship with the planet, etc.
Look forward to more story.

Re: Reasons to continue
From what I gather, the reason all that stuff hasn't been added yet is because they need to resolve all the bugs and lag issues first. Also they are giving players a chance to establish themselves before subjecting them to a storyline and conflict. I would just be patient and wait. You'll be sure it will come out just before EQ2 is released.
Re: Reasons to continue
I want guild missions to get here already
Re: Reasons to continue
Since the lag should have been gone I tried to play 2day again and it worked fine. So given that the game start to run as smooth again as it did the first few days....
....I asked myself too: "How can tnis game hook me in the long run?"
Well definitely not if they try to make anything *better* than others (xcept for technical/graphical issues) as there are allready few distincions between most games and the coming ones dont sound like strolling to far away from the traditional path either.
The more SoR goes its own way regarding gameplay, player interaction and story involvement the better in the long run.

Re: Reasons to continue
While not everything is ready and the big story things are coming in patch two. I think they have waited on some of the guild issues until the player base is more established to do what needs to be done.
It has been hinted at by the board moderator, that the kittin invasions have already begun.

Re: Reasons to continue
Reasons to continue. New lands, new nodes, different looks of items to make. Friends to meet.
They have acknoweldged and are patching to fix lag issues, they admitted to the lag within HOURS of it becoming an issue, and went to work immediately to fix it (or they wouldn't have had a patch to fix it so soon).
I am as jaded and cinical as the next player. I played an EQ mage until I just could level any more, then went to druid until they added the focus items and unnerfed the mage pets a tad. I was JUST as beat up and nerfed as the next EQ player (mage epic...UGH..any epic for that matter..ugh) And I have approached other games with skepticism due to Verant then Sony's ABUSE of their playerbase...and they are suffering...believe me.
BUT...there are things that THIS game have done that has eased my fears. The GM tone when responding to tells...at least the time or two I have had to contact one...has been one of respect and concern, NOT suspicion and doubt. And the responce and attitude of moderators in forums and the responce time on bugs and lag issues has been VERY heartening to me.
I would rather drag a dead elephant around for a MONTH than give Sony verant EQ another DIME of my money. I don't think I should have to cough out 45 dollars a YEAR to get improvements to a game...that is what my monthly fee is for. I have spoken with others that played EQ that have similar if not exactly the same feelings. I think the HORRID THREAT from EQ2 is a mirage, the same crew that can TAKE the abuse, will join up for abuse fest two. Anyone that thinks that gear is going to be easier to get in EQ2 is in for a SAD wake up call.
So far I have been treated beyond well first as a beta tester, then as a paid player of Saga of Ryzom. I feel that the money was WELL spent (even went out of my way to buy first copy and wait a week to ten days to get daughters copy). If I think a player is suited for the game...I will recommend it, but I do offer the caveat that this game is NOT for ubber leeters or Doods. There is too much work and thinking for the "average" gamer, but that is NOT a bad thing. There is an element that LOVE a challenge, and we will stay here...no matter what.
