Regarding Infinity's cessation of PR hostilities
Re: Regarding Infinity's cessation of PR hostilities
But then whats the point of taking part of PvP if theres no reward system. At the moment the reward system is the Supernodes Others exsite outside the PvP zones so you are not forces to take part its a choice.

If you'll only do PvP if there is some reward then all that shows is that you enjoy rewards.
If you enjoyed PvP itself surely you'd do it whether there is a reward system or not?
Re: Regarding Infinity's cessation of PR hostilities
I'm not my self a PvP player, but reward and reason gives us goals. But the reason and rewards has to do with PvP, not with PvE. So that they don't create unneccessary conflicts. What's the reward and reason, I think PvP community has to decide what it is, because they are only ones who really know what PvPers wanna.basicart wrote:But then whats the point of taking part of PvP if theres no reward system. Maybe fight because some glory point system and conquer someting. Who knows?
Re: Regarding Infinity's cessation of PR hostilities
Why do we need 2 threads to discuss the whole PvP thingy....
Maybe we can have a debate about it sometimes, with the GM's playing for arbiter.....

So as I understand it, no one should have any objections to your having fun despite any harm which comes to them as a result of it. Sex is the most fun thing I can think of. Sex between two consenting partners, or "players" if you will, that is. I don't think many would argue that non-consensual sex isn't fun for at least one of the parties. So if a person doesn't want to have sex with you, it's their problem ? If a person does want to particpate with you in PvP it's their problem ?
Ganking is too soft a word. When a player is bent over, defenseless with a pick in hand, and gets attacked from behind a better description would be rape. A bit over the top perhaps but a "wake up" here is required. Do the math....neither side can afford to win this argument.
Invest in a few tp's and travel the regions doing a "/who" and look how many peeps are playing. Then multiply that number by whatever you think is the ratio of subscriptions to the amount of players are logegd in at any given time. Let's for the sake of argument, say there are 1,000 subscriptions to the english server.....that's an income of $14k a month. With applogies to the European folks, I will use US dollar calcs.
At US minimum wage of $5.85 (IIRC) an hour and a 21% charge for taxes and benefits, that's $6,200 alone.....enough to hire 2.5 GM's to be on at any given time, assuming you couild hire one for US Minimum wage. Then there's financial collection costs, office staff, tech staff, servers, maintenance, rent, telephone, electricty, HVAC.....and so on.
Clearly, the future financial viability of the english server is questionable. If we lose half because they don't want PvP and its forced on them, then the situation gets more grim. If we lose half because they want PvP and its not available, then the situation gets more grim.
The only way to keep both sides happy is to allow them to choose whether or not they want to participate in PvP. Whether by indiviual or by Guild, peeps should have the option of participating or "consenting" and Nevrax should supply the option as has been previously discussed.
Now to get back on topic.....IN THE ABSENCE OF SUCH AN OPTION, perhaps the best thing to do is start two threads:
1. I want to participate in PvP.
2. I do not want to praticipate in PvP.
Let each guild, (or individual if they want to go against the guild choice), so state in the appropriate thread which option they wnat to play under. Let each guild, as is the subject of this thread, also state whether or not they will honor these positions. It will be a measure of each guilds / individual's honor and character whether they do honor them. I congratulate Infinity for their new stance, and for any guild to which this style of play appeals, I hope you wind up with a nice list of "feel free to whomp us / me in PR cause if we see your guild symbol in PR we gonna whomp you" guilds and players. However, it is also my hope that those players who have expressed their desire to not participate that you honor their oreference and not cahse them from the game. If we lose players, we all face the possibility of not playing the game after much longer.
Re: Regarding Infinity's cessation of PR hostilities
Wow, I can see how you could compare the two, they're TOTALLY relevant. And quite honestly, I DO drive fast through chess clubs. Thank you for making such a grossly accurate exaggeration. BUT it's also not my fault that the way you play is the more passive one. I really am sorry that that's the way things fall, but they do. We're both looking out for our own interests, mine just happen to be the dominant ones.grimjim wrote:So basically, what you're saying is, because the world contains both NASCAR and chess, you're allowed to drive full speed through chess clubs whenever you want?
Non PvPers CAN'T force what they want on you, the power relationship is entirely one-sided. It's not rocket science to see that.

Exaggeration for comedic effect CAN make people see that they're being blockheaded, in the same way that the 'fuzzy pink unicorn' mind exercise for Atheism works.sk8rss wrote:Wow, I can see how you could compare the two, they're TOTALLY relevant. And no, I'm not just looking out for my own interests, THATS the difference and the pro PvP view isn't the dominant one, it is the most domineering one.

Re: Regarding Infinity's cessation of PR hostilities
There is an obvious intrinsic flaw to the arguments here. PVP and non-PVP are supposed to be viewed as play styles.
I would guess as to the developer goal: introduction of content.
We all know quests are played out. Noone wants to collect 4 Yubo tentacles to make some glow juice to build this quest potion for .2 fame and 1000 dapper. I'm quite glad that the quests that are their are terse enough to betray their mindlessness
PVP introduces the only true dynamic content: we all know that facing a human opponent levels the playing field tremendously and makes way for what brilliant AIs can't reproduce: hate, revenge, political warfare, rivalries, et cetera.
Vutescu et al prefer playing a 1 player game where you run around and do nothing. ;-p but they might make some cool stuff with ryzom ring. I would encourage Infinity to stand their ground, but I encourage everyoen to have personality, flair, and to speak up regardless of their thoughts.

Hello
Re: Regarding Infinity's cessation of PR hostilities
No, we prefer a group oriented game where they aim is to team up to overcome adversity, not to kill or be killed for the jollies of some selfish inadequete whose only expression of fun is to spoil someone elses.swe999 wrote:Vutescu et al prefer playing a 1 player game where you run around and do nothing. ;-p but they might make some cool stuff with ryzom ring. If PvPers stick to smacking each other (outside of storylinked events) we won't have any problems, but even that's too much to ask for I expect.

Re: Regarding Infinity's cessation of PR hostilities
where do you get the idea all pvpers are selfish???or little kids or asholes. most of them are not. and im very sorry but when you are playing as a team against another team of players you are playing as a group to overcome something.
