What happens when....?

Post by taurolyo »

Please do not take this personally in any way - this is just my humble opinion.

My question is: If I canceled my account, do I have to start from scratch when I return (if the game becomes more appealing), or will my characters be saved?

I just don't find Ryzom as appealing as previous MMO's I've played. Everyone I've played with has been great, but I find it lacking in several areas.

Chat system
-- Clumsy and awkward to use
-- I found myself Mistyping many times by the user switch being set incorrectly, and always needed to be switched (easily corrected by using the separate channel windows - I know...)
-- No timestamps on messages.

XP Grinding
-- No 'quests' to further one's skills or XP
-- Fighting and hunting all the time to further one's skills gets boring, very quickly.

Treks
I also found the requirement for 'treks' to get from one major city to another is also very limiting - prevents races from inter-mingling, and also prevents guild halls from being not very accessible. A city-to-city portal network would help here.

Guilds
Only officers can recruit, What the heck is that? - at least make it an option to restrict recruitment like that...

You char will be there for 90 days as far as i know.

Nothing to say on that. Its personal like or dislike. But yes, the switch in the users chatwindow needs a shortcut to cycle through them. But you can send messages directly into a specific chat. DOnt have the short available, but many know them.

There is a portal network from every city to everywhere. And even more then cities. The thing is you need to walk there initially to get a teleport ticket. I have about 50 tickets for different portals.

I dont get the point about guilds ?

If its only the xp thing you should probably try again ?

From within any chatwindow one can send his/her message to any chat he/she wishes by typing the chatname to adress first, lead by a slash (just like typing your emotes):

  • Around = /say [message]
  • Shout = /shout [message]
  • Region = /re or /region [message]
  • Team = /te or /team [message]
  • Guild = /gu or /guild [message]
  • Tell = /tell [name] [message]
Beware though, country specific letters (ä,ö,ü,á,à,â,ê and so on) will not be sent correctly if sent from within a tell chat window while functional from all others, and other special letters (§,$,& for example) will be replaced by a . completely.

And to be on topic at least a little bit: sorry that you dislike it here, but SoR is different. And that's propably why the rest of us are here, afterall ;)
I hope you find something more of your liking or.... give Atys another try maybe.

I understand SoR and Atys is an ever-changing world, and I have every intention of returning, but I just wanted to point out my concerns.

I also wanted to mention how much I dislike the gold (or dapper) driven system... Teleport tickets are ok, but I feel that it's limited in the fact that you have to travel everywhere, and burn your cash to buy the tickets. If and when you decide you want to go back to where you were, you only get a one-shot use...

seems kinda backwards to me... I'd like to buy a ticket to where I want to go, not where I've been...

That's a bit unfair. Everyone would be able to get everywhere without working for it.

The guild recruitment thing: I'm glad only my officers and up can recruit. Last thing I really want is someone new to my guild recruiting everyone under the sun without my knowing. Sorry, but no.

You are not buying TP tickets, you are buying the rights to return there. Seems like a joke, but is not. Judging in terms of game story, you are just an ant in front of kami or karavan. They are not giving you the oportunity to travel in land, they give you the permission to get back. And they have choosen to make you pay for this permission.

If you cancel, you get kept for a while I think, at least if you've been subbed you do, not sure about trialers.

Chat System
I find it fine, but I'm used to IRC and don't try to keep track of everything in a single window.
USE THE TABS! That's what they're there for and the light up at the top if a new message comes in.
Why is timestamping an issue? Just uses up space as far as I'm concerned.

Grinding
Quests don't fit with a living world. There are missions, fulfilling the aims will usually get you XP, and often a bit of money too. The real 'quests' in Ryzom are the events and if fighting is involved you may even get a lot of XP from them.
If you find one thing boring, do something else. The real meat of Ryzom is the community.

Treks
The best thing about the game. Hugely social, breathtaking and providing a real sense of accomplishment. More of those 'quests' you were on about :)

Guilds
Restricted recruitment is good IMO, helps slow down the 'zergers'

Pretty sure it's 90days for Trials.

A fair amount longer if you've been a subby, they've not said exactly how long tho..

I think you wanted too much in a too short time. This game needs time. At the beginning 12.5 k dappers are a LOT money. After 6 weeks working not anymore. If you are a hunter type it is a little harder to earn a living on Atys. Harversters and crafters do have it easier. If you only harvest up to lvl100 you should have earned about a million dappers ;)

When we have treks or worldtours me and many others are sponsoring newer players with dappers for tickets.

If you had no luck joining a guild you should try on froum/guilds. Many guilds are recruiting. There should be one guild that suits you.
