I'm running a Sony VAIO A190 laptop w/ 1GB of RAM, a Mobility Radeon 9700 (64mb), 1.7ghz... uhmm, I guess that's all that's important.
I've got the latest drivers from sony for the video card.
Anyway, here's the problem:
First, it seems with my microsoft explorer mouse plugged in, the system will randomly hang while in Ryzom (and I believe it happened in EVE Online as well, so if anyone has a clue, let me know). I've never had it hang anytime other than in these two games (Direct3D full screen problem? can't remember if I had it freeze in window mode, but it might have). I'll let you know if I have it freeze with only touchpad working...
And aside from that...
Once in a while the graphics will just go bonkers and become all "liney" (sorry, I can't explain it). Exiting Ryzom leads me back to the desktop where certain fonts are glitched as well as some icons. A reboot fixes it...
But really, I don't want to reboot every 15 minutes.
Graphics glitches, freezes, etc.

Have you ever switched the mouse in the Ryzom settings ?infuzed wrote:I

Re: Graphics glitches, freezes, etc.
The hanging and 'liney' problem sounds a lot like your video chip might be overheating. Ryzom is very demanding on video and CPU and will let you know when your cooling is not good enough.
It may also be your video drivers. Make sure that you have something that is current (i.e. less than 6 months old) in the Radeon driver. You can also try tweaking things in the Windows display adapter settings (lower the D3D and OpenGL settings to 'performance' instead of 'quality')

As the VAIO is a laptop, I can't really control the cooling of the video card in this respect. I'll try lowering the quality settings to see how that goes. As for the Radeon driver, I've got the latest Sony supplies (which is November 2004). Sadly, ATI doesn't release drivers for Mobility cards, you have to get them direct from the manufacturer.Zerlin wrote:The hanging and 'liney' problem sounds a lot like your video chip might be overheating. Re: Graphics glitches, freezes, etc.
((Uhm, that is actually not entirely true. I recently re-installed everything on my computer (including Ryzom) and patched up with the latest drivers for my gfx-card (a radeon9800pro)... lo and behold it was the laggiest and most messed up gameplay I've experienced ever. A gm then tipped me to download older drivers, so I backtracked and the ones I found working best are from November 2004. Almost one year old drivers.Zerlin wrote:

So that might be worth a shot as well...
