On the very question "Do we really need PvP?", I answer YES.
Full free PvP anywhere, probably not.

What you tell me about the conflict between Karavan and Kamis worries me alot. In fact that means the great majority of English and German communities are totally OOC and don't respect the Lore.
It seems these communities prefer to play a game, and not roleplay a character. That's very sad because SoR is based on an original universe and counts on the storyline to make it a different game. So if you just hack n'slash and say "it's just a game I don't want to think about a restrictive RP", I think you miss the main part of the game.

On Aniro, there are alot of RP Guilds. They follow the Lore to interact with the universe, including other characters. When you decide to create a Matis, just reading the Lore you'll see that Matis are not "Good". You're going to play an haughty fanatic and not the transposed version of you-player in the game. Of course we're all for peace, we could all be friends and all IRL. But that's OOC because our characters just can't have the same vision of the World. Your character can't know all about Kami and Karavan and decide "they are all stupid, let's kiss each other". And it's really funnier to play the opposite of yourself I tell you.

So globally, English and German communities are not Roleplayers. Are they?


The consequence of RP and respect of the Lore is that when your pro-Kara character will see a pro-Kami in the Confusion Grove, he'll want to make them leave. Currently, it has to be done through duels. That smells terribly when you're in group and want to drive out another group. So when in groups, we go to PR, fight each other and the winner may come back. And I hope that doesn't shock you if I tell you that several guilds on Aniro don't use teleports of the opposite faction, and actually leave the area when expelled by the opposite faction. You know that don't ruin our fun at all, it makes the world living and not another theme park with jugulas on the right and ploderos on the left please keep the queue straight 20 minutes from here refreshments behind you don't litter have a nice day.
I have the impression you think as a player and not as your character when dealing with the storyline and the Lore. And towards kitins it's clear : how could for example a Matis accept Kamis when you remember Kamis stopped Matis from building a barrier against kitins in the Fleeting Garden ? How could a Tryker forget how Zoraïs let them die by kitins in front of their closed city gates ? It's really not a world where you would kiss someone with a different opinion. And that's more than interesting to play it.
That said, a lot of players on Aniro still think like that and cries when RPers tell them that Fyros smell, Trykers are little kids Zoraïs are gibbaïs or Matis are blind. Personally I that understand some players don't get it and want to play their comfortable game and chat with others. But that's not the purpose of a MMORPG like SoR, and they miss the main part.

Sooooo if we French are waiting Outposts (not me especially), it's for RP. Each faction and race will fight for their deep believes. Not players believes. That's the point.

It's all about roleplaying communities creating they own purpose in game world. Sure, it can be fun, but it's all about restricted controlled communities. These communities are very closed, because they has they own reasons to roleplay. They can't accept anyting outside, what does not fit they roleplaying idea. I have seen this in Ultima Online, was even part of it. It's very nice, but it does not support majority of the player base.

Sorry to say this to you but no, you are not right.
How could a jew kiss a german after the germans killed so many of them? How could an american kiss an arabian after 11 Septeber?
How could japaneses look at americans after Hiroshima?
Think at Vietnam, Afganistan, Coreea too... Do we have to hate a nation for the mistakes from the past?

thank you, best post i've read since quite a long time, i hope you won't mind if i translate that to german later this day.

i have a few questions though. a few weeks back there was an invasion of so called cutthroats, they staged a diversion in matis, tried to assault tryker, but got talked out of it and finally invaded fyros, where EVERY homin that was able and willing helped repel them, no matter what race or faction. what happened on aniro?

Yes of course you can translate it !

For the cutthroats, the first event in the Fleeting Garden was mainly followed by Matis and pro-Kara. However even some of the most Matis/Kara-haters went to see, and took part a bit. The CSR that leaded the expedition had to thank Kamists too, but as a Matis he did it briefly and remind everybody that the victory was for the glory of the King and Jena. So Kamists were not so proud.
The second event was different. It began in the Lakes, so basically there were all the Trykers, pro-Kami and pro-Kara together to defend their Lakes, and some Matis came to help and show. But when we realized that it was a lure and the battle actually took place in the Desert, those defending the Lakes went home and only pro-Kami and Fyros went in the Desert.
There were of course exceptions of players that take every event just to bash different monsters or are just curious and care less about the story, but in such an event it's not very important, RPers can ignore them, they're just "more troups". But globally when it changed from Lakes to Desert, there was a global "no way!" from pro-Kara.

Well on Aniro it's not closed like in Ultima Online. Even if some people say that RPers are elitists, the majority try to include everybody as they can. And RPers are not RP 24/7. In comparison with Ultima Online, the RP community is less strict and there's no association with rules and all that exclude the "tainted".
I don't say there's no problem, but even if you hunt all day long, RPers will give you a chance to have a try at it. I think.

I do respect it. Now guess why i am playing a Tryker ? I dont care for anyone. Even not for Stil Wyler. All i want is never go back into slavery again. And the concept of outposts does not respect the Trykers. They wont let me burn down any outpost at night. We dont have any skill suiting guerilla style of war. All is open combat. No ambushes (compass), nothing. But we Tryker are much to smart to face strong enemies in an open battle

Not too much and we play roles different. Many of us play based on the lore, but as many have a problem to let the lore go into this direction.

For the true possibility of having conflicts i welcome full PvP everywhere. But this wont happen. Many will go an kill themselfes about this and that. But not for Jena or Ma-Duk . You may feel lucky if the french community does not have such weirdness. BTW: I think IC and OOC that killing for religion is as stupid as trying to tame a Kincher.

PvP does not equal RP and, in fact, I think if you're going to take this tack that our community has taken more to heart from the lore than you have.

How can I say that?

Well, the various homin races used to vie and push against each other somewhat and that was part of the weakness that allowed the Kitin to destroy the old ways - something nobody would want to see again. In unity, strength, in division weakness.

The only, truly, hostile homin race from the lore is the Matis. They have invaded others while the strife in most other races has been internal. The Fyros can take the blame for Coriolis and the Kitin Swarm but the Matis have been the only aggressive race.

Kami and Karavan came together to counter the Kitin swarm setting aside even their differences. The various homin peoples lived together in the refugee lands in the prime roots, sharing lore and culture and living together.

Our characters, our heroes, have lived through some of this hardship, have seen that differences can be set aside, have fought together against the Kitin. Why would they want to give that up?

What has happened since, the revelations of Jena, the poorly worded Matis statement, the leaders lining up on sides, this _isn't_ lore. It's _events_. When one roleplays one takes on the role of one's character, one makes decisions as THEY do and acts as THEY do. One doesn't follow the direction one is being prodded like a sheep.

Its very easy, within the context of the lore and through events since the game started, for characters to want to work together, to preserve the peace and not to want to go to war on the say-so of furry little smurfs or the joint losers of the Darth Vader lookalike competition.

What I think we prefer, is to play our roles as we see them, as we have developed them.

Once you release a game it is no longer yours, particularly in a player-led dynamic such as TTRPGs and MMORPGs. People take what you've done in their own direction.
