Kamis and Karavans

Post by rylaan »

Let me start by saying I am a new player. Very new actually. 3 days into the 14-day trial new. Initial impressions are very good, with a special nod to a fantastic community of people.

Second, the storyarc (if you can call it that) between the Kami and the Karavan is flat out awesome. I have read multiple things on these two "belief systems" and have yet to determine the 'right' from the 'wrong' - if one even exists. Perhaps down the line, I will discover the truth of the matter.

So here is my question: Before I get too entrenched into the game, I want to pick a civilization I can really wrap my arms around. I am leaning toward eithe the Matis or the Trykkers. Herein lies the problem. I want to follow the path of the Kamis over the Karavan. Is the combination of Kami and (either) Matis or Tyrkker possible? I sort of understand fame and how it works. Are there players who have "gone against the sworn code of their civ" to switch what is supposed to be a natural allegiance? Is it even possible? If it is possible, is it viewed as being "traitorous"?

Any clarification would be great.

If you're really intent on leaning towards the Kami... well it will be just a matter of time and doing enough missions for Kamis and their friends. I believe it might be easier to start out with a Tryker... but I'm not sure.
As for being considered a traitor... well a Matis following Ma-duk is prolly much more uncommon than a Tryker doing so... and the reactions of your fellow Matisians might be to consider you as a traitor.
But either way, it'll be possible for you to follow the Kamis.

Welcome :)

Tryker and Matis have more fame to Karavan at birth. But that doesnt matter. You are able to chose later by changing your fame. This game is quite open and most depends on your decissions.

I play a Tryker, and he is mildly Kami aligned. This is by choice (Baxter doesn't think anyone, not even a god or group of them, should hold power over his destiny or actions). No harm because of that has yet befallen him from the Tryker civilization, though naturally, as with any religious issue, some people on Atys disagree with his stance :p . If you wish, you may raise your Kami or Karavan fame to it's maximum, without being considered a traitor. This may change in the future, but that is how it is now. Though I hope that, because of their basic personality and precepts, Tryker civilization will remain a free one, where one is allowed to think and feel as they please :) .

Sure you can. :)

My Charakter for example is still strugling to understand "her" place on and in Atys. She belongs to a Karavan friendly Guild and was brought up with a belive in Jena. But all she´s witnessed in her time in the new lands is beginning to form doubt within her. The Karavan seem so liveless and cold, while the Kami seem to care, even if they´ve got some harsh judgement on those who deplete the natural resources of Atys. And up until know she´s never encountered a Homin who wasn´t friendly in his own way and who´d call her a heretic or something. She tends towards the neutral stance in the meantime... But her way is far from finished.
Only time will tell ;)

OK. Thanks everyone for all the responses and help.

Based on everything said, I have made the decision I was already leaning toward already.

Look for a new Tryker to be added to the world of Atys very soon!

One thing we have forgotten to tell Rylaan:

There is an effect that comes from changing your Kami/Karavan alliance. Your respawn-points will alter to those of the other Faction. Not a big deal, seldom more than an inconvience, balanced by increased convience in the lands of the faction you have switched to.

There isn't anything wrong with a Matis being Kami aligned. I have very high personal fame with the Kamis myself.

The beauty of Ryzom is that you aren't limited by set skill classes OR anything of the like. If you wanna be a Tryker kami crafter.....go for it. However, 3 months later, you find that crafting and Kamis aren't your thing....no need to reroll! Just pick up a sword and go to town. Run a few Karavan missions every day and your fame will change.

So my advice, pick a race that you like looking at, that you are comfortable with, and that you just have fun with. No need to make any big decisions in the beginning, as you can change them along the way as you see fit.

Just my 2 dappers....

There is a third faction, the Hominists around Elias Tryton. Little known sofar as both Karawan and Kami are strangely united in fighting against them. But there are people around who could tell you more if they wanted to...

<prods sadly absent Neun>
Thosam - Hunter of small defenseless animals, Forager near safe areas and Crafter of useless junk.

I hereby declare myself to be a Hominist. Ask me about my philosophy.

I survived Patch 1. :) I'm not so sure about Episode 2.
