Also consider the atys solar system doesnt make much sense in the world of physics. I wont go into detail but consider that the sun is always in the same place in the sky, it just gets closer and further away. And the amount it does that suggests a rediculous luner orbit so that doesnt explain it ;)

Uh... maybe Atys revolves around that big planet with the exact same speed it revolves around it's axis? But then we'd have daily solar eclipses.
Anyways, objects in the sky seem to include a planet that looks to be larger than Atys and a moon that could be well be the same size of Atys. Then there's the sun which seems quite small compared to the planetary bodies (red dwarfstar maybe?), and another bright object which I believe to be a second sun further away. So a double star system with three planets of comparable masses. All of that revolving around eachother would surely give pretty weird orbits indeed :D
There's also a nebula that moves around against the stars in the back, so it's not really a nebula but something in the Atysian solar system.

I see we are going back to the old system where only the questions with easy answers were being considered.

Answer the difficult questions Jessica & we may have a little bit more confidence in you. You know which ones I mean.

Planet sized object need a long time, and stable orbit to assemble. Even if we accept that some intelligent force created Atys, there is still the "problem" of the non moveing star (if it is indeed a star).

I find it more likely that Atys revolve around the big planet. Actually, given the closeness of Atys to it, Atys could be a moon which would make the "star" a lot smaller and easier to contruct.

Hmmm, it would even make the branches in the sky physically plausible.

I reckon we're a large moon orbiting a gas giant too.

There's the EM problem, but then maybe that's why the Karavan are there. The gas giants in our system have monstrous magnetic fields which could, in theory, be tapped for power as well as being rich in He3 which is supposedly a good fuel for fusion. Plus you have that really big and clumpy ring system which must be teeming with materials.

Maybe the Karavan just wants Atys as a base of operations to exploit the asteroid field?

One of the things that makes more sense, although doesnt explain everything, is the sun we see is infact a reflection of the real sun on a giant geostationary mirror satalite. Giving light to the dark side of Atys which we are on.

So the real sun is only viewable on the otherside of the planet. That or its a fake sun :P Or not a sun at all

Atys did not coealesce, nor did it, or was it, assembled. It grew.

Its probably not the story behind Atys, but just imagine...

Giant organic plants that seed themselves in the cometary halo, feeding off the carbon and water and germinating in the 'soil' of that outer shell. Moving inward as they grow and unfurling leaves and branches to draw in the stronger sunlight to feed them, growing ever bigger, forming an atmosphere and then fruiting, bursting seeds out into orbit, giant solar-sail seeds like dandelion heads that fly out under light-pressure to see other stars.

Beautiful idea but likely a million miles from the truth. :)

Hmm... if everything on Atys is organic, wouldn't the planet retain all the carbon and the atmosphere be DANGEROUSLY oxygen rich? Even the fire of Coriolis would seem minor :)
