Hehe, they sure are confusing at first :)

For a "slightly" old, but nonetheless accurate, basic rundown of customising magic actions, see here :D

Stanzas are a bit complicated at first, but really fun to mess with later.

An example with fighting:

You get the Basic Attack action for free, so you kick a few what-evers to death and get a load of SP. At the Fight Trainer you then go shopping for stats increases and you also buy let's say Increased Damage One.

After killing a few more what-evers and a few more levels you then decide to buy Accurate Attack 1 as well, seems you miss a lot and you don't like that, as that hurts.

Now while you're hitting your what-evers more often, you don't do as much damage as before.

You then want to combine Increased Damage and Accurate Attack into one Attack. Right-clicking on your action menu (the one between your hands), you choose an Attack action.

The basic Attack action cost you no credits, but also gives you no credits. You click 'Add Option' and see your Increased Damage 1 and your Accurate Attack 1 and add those two into your action. You have now added two option/attack stanzas.

However these cost you credits, the small scale down at the bottom is all to the left and you can't learn the action.

You therefore click 'Add Credit' and can here add in credit stanzas. In Fight those are either Stamina based (it takes some effort to swing that heavy sword/axe/pumpkin-on-a-stick) or HitPoint based (your blood pressure spikes everytime causing you to hurt a bit more) You add Credit stanzas until the balance is level, click 'Learn Action' and you have created your first stanza-based Attack action.

As you go up in levels you will find that you get all kinds of weird and wonderful option/attack stanzas, but that they all cost you credits, paid for in Credit stanzas. Thus the permanent call from Fighters for their own personal 'Heal Stamina' and 'Heal Life' monkeys.

You will also find that the extreme-l33t-uber-Attack you want to make costs you more credits than you can scratch together using Credit stanzas, so you insteed need to make choices. That's where the fun and experimenting comes in.

The same basic pattern of Option stanzas that cost you credits and Credit stanzas that give you credits is repeated in Magic and Harvest. Craft is different in that the Craft action itself gives credits.

I hope this helps a bit.

I fully agree with the kamihugger. You can leave when you feel ready, which is at lvl 5 for some people...

i think i'm starting to understand stanzas a little better (thanks) but i have a question ... if you have two actions with the same stanza in it (say a credit stanza) can you use the two of them in a custom action? or only one of each kind of stanza?

If I understand the question correctly, then the answer you are looking for is:
No, you can't use two of the same stanzas in one action. For example in a fight action, you can't use a credit stanza that consumes 3 stamina and then another one that consumes 5 stamina, you can only use one stamina credit stanza. You also can't use, for example, accurate attack 1 and accurate attack 2 in one action, you have to choose one.
You can use two different stanzas in one action. For example, you can use a stamina credit together with a life credit, or an accurate attack together with an increased damage.

hmmm... not quite what i meant but it helps nonetheless :) what i meant was if you have the same exact stanza learned from two different actions, does that mean you have two "copies" of the stanza and can use them both in one action? i'd really like to give examples for what i mean but i can't remember the stanzas or actions i wanted to try this with :s

Ah, that would've been my second interpretation ;)

Nope, you can only learn one copy of each stanza. In a lot of skills this shows too, for example, if I'm not mistaken the 'attack after parry' action costs 20 skill points to learn, and contains an 'accurate attack' stanza and an 'opening after parry' stanza. The 'accurate attack' stanza can also be learned seperately for 10 skill points, and if you do so the 'attack after parry' action will then only cost 10 skill points to learn, because you already have the 'accurate attack' stanza.

ahh thanks !

well, that's awesome to hear that you don't have to pay for stanzas again in an action bundle if they have already been purchased as a single stanza. would have been cool to have multiple copies of the same stanza ;) but i guess this way is more fair.

thanks for your help ^_^

Hmmm, Do I understand correctly that you want to use said stanza multiple times to increase its effect?
If so, then just wait´till you get a little "older" then there will be, for example "increase damage 2, 3,4 etc" or "bleedig 2,3..." So you actually CAN use the same Stanze multiple times, in a way. ;)
(I know its still the same Effeckt but with more Bang for your Bug. :D , pun intended)
You just have to buy the increase. ;)
