Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

There's still a number of pretty popular MUDs floating around.

aelvana wrote:Did you guys know MMORPGs have been around since like the 70s? They used to call them MUDs. They were EXACTLY what our games are, but just the text, with the additional commands "n" "s" "e" "w", as well as "look". When you moved or looked, you saw:

[Fairhaven entrance pier]
You're on the entrance pier to the Tryker capital Fairhaven. To your east lies the resource-rich Fairhaven beach. To your west, the city thickens and spreads out into busy piers and small shops.
EXITS: W, E
Da'rar Tearan is here.
Da'ashan Noda is here.
A suckling messab is here.
A suckling messab is here.
A suckling messab's corpse lies here.
Aelvana is here.

Other than that, identical games. Everquest was actually based in part off stock public domain MUD code -- the emotes are identical. These games have been like this for decades. I'm sure all old mudders remember =D There'd be exploits, code changes that had hidden bugs, everything we're used to in MMORPGs. It's just the nature of programming that constantly has fresh code introduced :)

Hope someone found this interesting at least :P

Ooh that really brings back memories of zork, those were the days when everything was up to your imagination. Nowadays people aren't satisfied with the simple joy of making a map of where you have been.

In both UO and EQ, they have had patches on friday and break the server, where on a long weekend you could not play at all cause the bug patches broke the game. UO did credit people with a free month once. EQ however never did.

For those interested ... Legend of the Red Dragon is now Legend of the Green Dragon.

The mmorpg's of today are nothing but graphics and bells added to a mud as Aelvana said.

I'm sure it does, if you're not ground into dust by grinding through the grind. Hopefully their super-secret non-combat stuff coming with issue 3 will change that.

I heard about this thing called a Xbox and something else called a PS2 ... from what I gather they produce content that is playable 99% of the time without any problems.

Sorry for the light heartedness today but honestly. I will play SoR for a long time to come. I havent reached the bottom of the prime roots yet ... havent watched as a wave of Kitin rip thru an unprepared town.

I havent reached lvl 100 much less lvl 250 in any skill.

Maybe I should go do that instead of reading this .... *ponder*

Every console game has it's share of dupes, walk-through-wall bugs, jump-while-powerup-hits to have a ducking graphic the rest of the level. It doesn't matter though if you exploit in a console game, so they get a quarter page in PowerGamingTricksMonthly and that's it.

Throw in the networking, updates, and additional world/DB size, and you've multiplied your bug-and-interaction-quirk rate by a factor or two. It all works out just as you'd expect, no one's hosing anyone. Relax and play =D

Will some GM please set my title to Encyclopedia already?

Kingdom of Loathing

CoH is seriously lacking content. I was addicted to CoH for 3 months. that's how long it took me to blow through ALL of the content twice and experience the pre-40 game 8 times. now my account is on hold for Issue #3, at which point i will exhaust that update(probly in about 2 weeks) and put it on hold again. Issue #3 will not be introducing the non-combat system btw.

SoR is incredible. so many options i wish i had more time in the day to try them all(already staying up 'til my eyes hurt). so far, i haven't done _any_ of the "content" in this game. i'm too busy trying to gather resources to make armor(crafting junky). i'm sure i'll get to it... everntually. I think the environment is excellent content in itself. it's snowing now, i can't believe it! Paragon city is like living in friggin LA. same boring weather all the time.

lag is a problem sometimes. the 10:29 pst lag is kind of funny to me... but it's totally acceptable at this stage imo.

so to the devs: fix the lag! and add more "content"

if you don't... i'll keep paying you anyways.

Exactly which systems did you think I was referring to Madden Online? It's only *the* online play juggernaut for consoles... :D Check into the bug with calling plays at the line of scrimmage, I can dig up links if needed.
