Next Patch scheduled for tomorrow, August 11

Post by lawrence »

This just in from Nevrax!

Nevrax wrote:Tomorrow (Thursday), we will patch all live servers with the elements
currently listed in the Now In Test section of the Website, which has been updated to reflect the last changes and give extra details.

We will also use this opportunity to add new hard drives to the Web server to increase the available disk space. As a result, all shards will be down tomorrow from 9:30 am to 5 pm (Paris local time, GMT+2), and the Website (along with the nevrax.org website, the billing system, the chat servers, the server status script and the customer support tools) will be unavailable from 9:30 am to 11 am.

This patch is the last of the Spring Clean series, bringing fine-tuning, bugfixes, and internal technical changes to the game. After this one, we will be resuming regular content updates: the next major milestones are the [url]http://ryzom.com/?page=news&id=975]Episode 2[/url] and the Outposts (Chapter III).

Of course; the CMs and I are reading these threads on a daily basis, and the devs get reports and copy&paste of the important remarks - when they don't come to read your remarks directly on the boards, which they do a lot. However, keep in mind that when we are close to the patch (like when it's in Test), only drastical choices can be made. Since it's already coded, it's often a binary choice: either we keep the feature or remove it from the patch - otherwise it would result in delays.

One of the areas where we are the most careful and where you can more easily influence the designs or the features is the 'Under Consideration' section. That's where there is the most detailled reports we write for the devs, and the most animate discussions we have internally about your comments and ideas.

?

What I was also saying at the time, two paragraphs below:

"However, with the time distance between the actual coding of a feature and its arrival in-game (the test phase detailled in past articles), you're are still in this desert we have left two months ago: the next patch, with the elements currently in test, will be the last representative of the spring clean/reorganisation phase."

So why were we not given a chance to feedback on the changes to armour requirements? Specifically, the level + 25 feature that suddenly appeared in the release notes yesterday without any prior warning. Last I heard was that the change to light armour requirements was to be constitution * 2. Suddenly there's a level cap as well.

Could you point me to the thread/news item where this was announced/discussed?

Having claimed to be listening to us and giving us a chance to influence development, have you now just ignored that and sneaked a change in?

"as well" could mean "instead"

Edit: The new patch notes seem to indicate as well though :(

Not what it now says in the notes.

[ E Q U I P M E N T ]
. [New] When an item is worn out, it is not automatically destroyed anymore. It is unequiped and marked with a red cross over its icon in your inventory. You then need to destroy it (this is the only action you can perform on worn out items). [Discuss it]
. [New] About armors:
- In order to wear light armor your skill has to be less than 25 levels below the the armor's level. For example, you can wear a light armor whose level is 75 when you reach 50 in the appropriate skill.
- Medium and heavy armor require you to have a skill of 25 less than the level of the armor and the right consitution level. [Discuss it]
. All piece of equipment (even light/caster armor and jewels), either crafted or looted, now have pre-requisites you will have to match to be able to equip them. All those equips have at most two pre-requisite skills. You can see the pre-requisite by right-clicking on piece of equipment then choosing 'info'. Please note that items bought, crafted or looted prior to the introduction of this change to the live version will keep their prerequisites (none for light/caster armor and jewels).

The new prerequisites will be:

Light armor: max quality = constitution * 2;
Jewels: max quality = highest skill + 25. [Discuss it]
