I was a high level forager shortly after release of Ryzom. I was very ready for a non-combat based character. I had a fair amount of fun supplying my crafter friends with goods.
A lot of aspects of foraging were never fun to be begin with though to me. I haven't heard of anyone who has enjoyed foraging missions, or considers digging really in-character sense the materials change in beta.
But while I find it to be more balanced in terms of prime roots and stuff... I also find it to be even more of a grind. Especially since now even your stanzas are degraded based on level.
So I'm curious. Who enjoys foraging for the sake of foraging? (And not to craft). Who would potentially enjoy foraging with some changes to it? Versus those who just don't like foraging. I plan on staying with Ryzom this time as a fighter and a mage... my foraging though higher level is going to be retired because it just isn't fun.

Foraging and careplanning is fun for me in a way/sometimes. Fairly mindless in safe areas, so I can chatter in the guild channel while digging...

Aye, foraging is fun as long as you're doing 5 other things at the same time

Re: Is Foraging "Fun"?
Have you tried eXtreme diggin?
That's when you eyeball a kitty until it moves off yer spot, rush into the spot to quikly harvest again, then rush out?
How about cp'ing for a digger that has a huge explosion that can blow you both to kingdom kome? And you are only equipped with cp1? Man that's exciting.
Oh, and I will tell you wut I tole a bud of mine once. You can treat the node like it's a big Ocyx right? And yer pick is this nice 2h sword right? And everytime you "attack" the node you gain some "xp" and see it's sources "hp" go down, right?
His reply? "g-h-e-y".
See???!??
(hehe, ok I be serious for a sec. Foraging is fun after you pass the beginner lvl where you have a lot more skill at your disposal, such as tracking and careplanning, and there're more dangers involved, such as gassing yourself or diggin in scarey spot. But ... foragin also becomes quite painful after lvl 100 or so ... because the xp bars move so darn slow.)

Actually, I"m a returning Forager from release. I have over 100 Jungle Forage and though I'm close to it in Prime Roots forage... I don't think I can compel myself to get to 100 with it.vinnyq wrote: (hehe, ok I be serious for a sec. It does move slow, and personally I feel more handicapped than helped by having higher level stanzas when trying to forage desert/forest. I used to enjoy foraging because I could chat in guild and it was rewarding to explore... but I really don't feel it is either now.

Re: Is Foraging "Fun"?
I really love foraging.. It's been my main skill from about lv50 onwards, and PR has always been my main branch, started in roots at about lv40. In PR it's great for any number of reasons; getting supremes, learning how to sneak, dodge mobs, run away effectively in short it's about the only aspect of the game that is challenging. I find digging above ground a little dull, but i make it a bit more entertaining by using AAG extractions -)

Re: Is Foraging "Fun"?
I enjoy foraging Mostly because it leaves me time to look around and listen to the radio, chat in guild and make something usefull for others.
The downside is that it can become a boring grind, no more fast dings and new cool skills to try. atm I'm 190~ lake and 150~ PR. The PR are the most exciting and frustrating, there is alway's the threat of being killed by a wandering/hunting mob or player (tho never seen a aggresive player in the PR) The weather is a pain sometimes, but the rewards are great
*poses in her cool black dress* *winks* *giggles* and get's back to digging

to me forage works as it should. there is room for improvement tho.
... and yes, tracking is not broken
Re: Is Foraging "Fun"?
For me, foraging is only fun when I do it with someone else
