You're probably right (and this was my first assumption as well). But I asked people that were running slower than me for machine/connection info and I didn't find a good pattern. The only pattern I've really noticed is racial. Again, I'm sure you're right; it's just odd.aylwyne wrote:I believe everyone is designed to run the same speed (I have a vague recollection that this was 'officially' confirmed). However, run speed does definitely depend on your internet connection speed and machine speed.

Oh, and you run *slightly* faster in 1st person mode because the game doesn't have to render youoldmess wrote:You're probably right (and this was my first assumption as well). Re: Anyone up for a trek?
As promised, here's the details of our upcoming trek. We are primarily doing this to support our own new members and to help our new friends, the Fluffy Bunnies. But, we welcome anyone that wants to join and can follow a few simple rules.
This is a round-the-world trek of Atys starting in the beautiful, but dry, city of Pyr. From there we'll go to Zora, Fairhaven and then Yrkanis.
Date: Sunday, August 7
Time: 2pm EDT (6pm GMT, 7pm BST, 1pm CDT, 11am PDT)
Start place: the main gates of Pyr
Myself and Heavyn will be leading (at alternating times). In addition to people that need access to foreign lands, we're going to need strong healers, nukers and fighters to support us on this journey. So, anyone that is able to help is welcome to do so. If you can help on part, but not all of the trek, that's good too.
In case you haven't heard the rules before, here they are (skip if you're an old hand at this):
1. Since this will be a multi-team thing, I'll be keeping a /tell window open to each team leader. Try to keep conversations limited to the team window except for shouts of AGRO or ADD. Team leaders should keep me informed if I'm getting too far ahead. Team leaders should also take inventory of their members after each portal and let me know when you're ready to proceed.
2. Stay close and follow the path the lead team takes. Don't cut corners. We may have chosen a certain path to avoid agro and cutting corners may attract unwelcome attention.
3. No looting. I don't care how tempted you are to find out what kind of mats that mob has, no looting. If you can't follow this rule, don't come along.
4. No attacking things that we don't need to. If the leader attacks it, feel free to join in, but watch your targetting to make sure you are on the same mob the leader is. If it attacks you, shout AGRO and fight back. Otherwise, leave things alone. We want to travel, not fight as much as possible.
5. We want to start right on time, so be at the Pyr gates before the start time or you'll get left behind. Get teamed up as quickly as possible. If you're the team lead, send me a /tell so I know. To get teamed, shout "LFG". Once you are teamed, sit down and await instructions.
6. If you are below lvl 150 or so, heal. If you can't heal, just stay close and follow. As we go thru high level areas, there is no point in trying to attack mobs that you can't hit except to but a greater burden on the healers.
7. Stay behind the leader. If you get ahead of the leader, it makes it harder to keep you and everyone else safe.
Detailed route plans:
Start in Pyr
.. to Kami TP (1) in Oflak's Oasis
.. to the Kami TP (2) in the town of Dyron (we'll pass thru a PvP area here, so be even more careful with your targetting)
.. to the portal to the Zorai lands
.. to the spawn point in the Knot of Dementia
.. to the Kami TP (3) in the city of Zora
.. to the Kami TP (4) in the city of Min Cho
.. to the portal in the Grove of Umbra
.. to the Kami TP (5) in the Trench of Trials
.. to the portal in the Trench of Trial/Bounty Beaches
.. to the southern portal in Bounty Beaches/Fount
.. to the Karavan TP (6) in the Fount
.. to the portal in the Fount/Resting Water
.. to the Karavan TP (7) in Resting Water
.. to the city of Fairhaven (Karavan TP, 8)
.. to the town of Avendale (Karavan TP, 9)
.. to the portal near Avendale/Lagoons of Loria
.. to the portal in Loria/Heretic's Hovel
.. to the Karavan TP (10) in Fleeting Garden
.. to the city of Yrkanis (Karavan TP, 11)
At each TP, we'll stop for 10 minutes and then we'll be moving again. Make sure you get a ticket. If you run out of dappers, ask. Someone will be able to help out. If you don't get a ticket, you're a silly rabbit. You can see how many TP's I'm planning to stop at (11), so you can plan your finances accordingly and ask for additional dappers anytime, even before we leave.
In Fairhaven, we'll take a 30 minute break to allow feeling to return to my hands and give my eyes a rest.
From Trench of Trials until we get to Fairhaven, Heavyn will be leading. Otherwise, I'll be leading. Adjust your targetting macro accordingly. Team leaders may continue to keep me informed of status and readiness and I'll keep Heavyn informed.
If you wish to join up in the middle of this thing, meet us at one of the tp's listed above. At Fairhaven, we'll also use the opportunity to disband and reform any teams that have gotten too small (not everyone continues on these things for the entire trip).
I think that's everything, but you have any questions, let me know here or in-game.

There's no PvP zone between Oflovak's Oasis and Dyron
Re: Anyone up for a trek?
My thanks to everyone that assisted with this run. A special thanks to Frydeswinde who spent 2 of the legs as the rear guard helping me stay aware of the stragglers. There are many other individuals that I should thank, but since I'm sure I'll forget someone, I'll just say that all help was appreciated.oldmess wrote:just a quick bump to remind folks this is happening today if you're interested.
In case it wasn't obvious, this is the first large-scale trek I've led. Hopefully it was useful to some and fun for the rest of you that joined in.

Re: Anyone up for a trek?
Thanks OudKnoei and all that helped, and attended.
Had a great time and got my last TPs. We made it to
the end, despite highly reduced numbers.

Re: Anyone up for a trek?
Yes, that was quite a trek ... Slucer waiting for us at the first corner in Loria and the Death Cute stopping by for a little chat ... the warm welcome to Verdant Heights from that tribe in HH ... the named cutter and karosta dropping in together to make sure we knew we had been properly greeted. Priceless!!
