Orienteering idea

Post by kgrieve »

I just had an idea but don't have the resources to carry it out.

How about orienteering competitions. Getting to various places, scoring points for who arrives first, second and third at each place.

This was inspired by how I note materials position (Fairhaven 874m, Crystabell 537m, Kami Welcomer 376m) and four of us arriving at the same time to rez.

It would need four or five Homins who are the flags and one marshall who co-ordinates everything.

Four or five Homins (flags) go to various positions on a map. Each secretly reports their position to the marshall giving three distances to various points, such as distance to the Fairhaven Kami Welcomer, Crystabell and Windermeer. In REGION and for each flag, the marshall shouts out the distance to the three points, this will identify the position of the targets.

When the first Homin tags (heals) the flag, the flag shouts the Homins name in REGION and so on. Points are given for first, second and third person to tag the flag.

The person with the most points wins a prize. A timed game could also be played, say around the world.

Easy to organise, can be level independant and should be fun.

I salute your efforts to find something to do!

I spit at myself for not bothering to pursue this.

I laugh in the face of content, when I can find it.

He he Yoshi, are you sure you are not replying to my post from another thread? Poor old Kgrieve is going to think someone is interested in his event with all these posts man!

By the way Kgrieve, while u are out orientiering, could you measure the distances between 2 very far points and note the different angle of the moon or sun when you TP to the remote location. Please pass these figures to me so I can extrapolate the size of the planet Atys. I have tried but the angles do not seem to differ enough. Thanks :)

*smacks Yoshi and Tember around*
i like the idea and it cant be abused too much using speed etc if you actually have to search for the person I remember when i came over from noobie island there was a race from town to town which was good fun. As most of us know where everything is this is like an extension of that, with a bit of hide and seek thrown in.

I can think of places where there are dual levels or can only be reached by starting along a route further away. I also hinted that you can use co-ordinates that start from people you would have to visit first, such as another 'flag'.

As I said I don't have the resources to organise one of these events, any takers?

What you need is 4-5 volunteers to be flags. But no one can volunteer until they have some idea when the event is to be held. I'd suggest you name an approximate day and time, and see if you can get enough people to step forward for flag duty :)

To start the ball rolling, I'll happily volunteer if the time is suitable for me!

4-5 volunteers could be organiced... if we get some guides and/or GM´s to pose as flags for us ;) (they have some nice poles too*lol*)
also they can teleport to anyplace on atys, so nobody can see to where they walk of. the marshall can/should be a GM too.

PS:if we can´t get some guides to do it, i´ll volunteer for a testrun too*g*
