Mind you, judging by the recent news from China (you sold my sword, now die), I guess I could be very wrong :)

Isn't Lineage a PvP-heavy game? Lineage is a Korean MMO (IIRC), and is absolutely huge over there.
Same is Conquer Online and i think Tibia is too.

In Eastern MMORPGs, most are thoroughly unrestricted PvP. It is mainly culture thing, I think; they like to gank each other.

It works for them, :D .

There's more to 'forced' than simply addressing open PvP. There are situational pressures and denial of 'content'.
Can you be a little more specific?

aylwyne expressed the same concern.

The current swathe of additions is catering to a minor fraction of the playerbase and, while there are other rewards and factors to be considered in outposts, taking part in them or going after them will seem to necessitate exposing yourself to PvP, whether you have the slightest interest in it or not.

Arguably this is adding a small amount of 'content' (whatever that really means) that anybody wants, screened behind an aspect of gameplay that 85-90% (best estimate) of the playerbase wants little or nothing to do with.

There may be more to outposts, enabling factors for faction wars and upcoming story developments but still, if we want to participate, if we want access to this interesting stuff then we have to submit ourselves to PvP, and its not consensual - if I understand the hinted system of taking over outposts properly.

Is that the wrong way around, or am I misunderstanding it? :)

Maybe he means things like:
DCC wrote:Yes, the Outposts have to be conquered using PvP. But once an Outpost has been conquered, it provides access to other non-PvP activities.

In this specific case it sounds like to get new non-PvP-features you will have to do PvP first. If you don't want to do PvP to gain controll of an outpost you won't be able to use the new non-PvP-content.

This applies also to other cases, since all new features seem to be in some way connected to the ownership of an outpost. And as you clearly stated: To own an Outpost you will have to do PvP.

Please tell me, that I'm getting something completely wrong. :)

Wrong way round, I'm not feeling too well today, thanks for catching it.

Me: Mmm, yes please.
Nevrax: Alright, but you have to let me break one of your fingers to have it.
Me: Um... not so hungry now, thanks.

Where do you keep coming up with these numbers... a half dozen of the biggest guilds are waiting for nothing less than exactly what is coming... Sure Melinoe don't gank folks typically in PR like some of the others do... but we plan to crack heads to get the Outpost we want if need be and defend it til the last man...

You either want an outpost and all the rewards it will reap (and the duty to protect it) or you don't... This game is about Outposts and they are going to be as good for RP as for game control... You suggest we just buy them or have a best peom contest ?

Not really. The game is about the big story involving the relationships between the Homin races and the Kitin, Karavan & Kami. Outposts appear to be nothing more than to provide a purpose for guilds outside of being a social/support club.

I think people here are mixing a few PvP and not PVP related issues. Problem isn't just about PvP rules, games content, but what kind of the player base game has.

Yes, that means if the outposts are design to be consent PvP, it will leave those people who are not interested about PvP, cold. There isn't anyting in it for them, as they don't PvP at all. It seem to little hard for some people to understant that some people don't PvP at all, ever. Nor same problem exist for understand why some people only like open PvP. They are both extreme playing styles.

Not really, maybe little, but. Main different is that most of these games are design to be full open PvP from the start. So people who like open PvP choose those games and those people who don't like open PvP choose other games. It maybe culture different, but also choises made by players.

Open PvP does not work in player base what has players who don't like to PvP at all. It does not matter what the rules are. Problem is that PvE only players does not accept anykind PvP situation agaist them self. Only consent PvP is acceptable enviroment for those players. Basicly it's a bad judgement to mix open PvP and only PvE player base in same game. Also player community can't controll other people behaviors without very powerfull tools for it. If someone wanna be PK, there is notting what can be done by player community. There will be always victims, whining and moral problems.
