Cerest and crew, the real issue.

Post by jdexter1 »

Cerest,

I'm sorry for how harsh I sounded, but you have got to understand, I have just been through this with AE, and to have the same things starting all over again in yet another game with huge potential is just so dissapointing I couldn't begin to convey that.

Yes, sometimes bad things happen. My major concern and the reason I got so very angry was that there was NO information on this. No one would own up to the issue. I went to the support chat, and was ignored when I asked about the rollback. Then when there were responses, the information contradicted what you posted.

Exploits happen, and I agree, removing them and the exploiters is tantamount to preserving the game. Not having logging or some similar tracking method in the game is very, very bad. If we can expect a rollback everytime an exploit is found, then I'm afraid there won't be much of a future for this game, which is very sad.

Also, being up front with your customer base and owning up to things is also a very good way to diffuse explosive situations. I would have a great respect for a company that posts 'We messed up, sorry guys', than one who posts 'It happens' or 'blame the exploiters' or 'we had a rollback' when it was server failure or vice versa.

Loyalty comes from speaking to your audience. Loyalty is what gets people to recommend these types of games to their friends.

Bugs happen, exploits happen, but to earn respect you have to be upfront and truthful.

Dude, seriously. Step away from the computer. Walk outside. Take a big breath. Then come back and re-read your post.

Bad things happen. Life isn't fair. Just roll with it, man.

I didnt see anywhere where Nevrax said they did not have a way to track down the exploiters and the logins. I actually remember from beta having Nevrax send me an email because THEY had noticed I had lots of small-playing period of time and were wondering if I was being disconnected or if it was on purpose. That means they do track some stuff ;)

Even if they have tracked down the exploiters and all the credits generated, the rollback might just have been to actually fix the economy and not let it deteriorate further by letting the money in.

I can understand the frustration, but so far Nevrax has been very good with communicating with the community and I hope they keep at it.

As you said youve played other MMORPGs, you know that no CS or CM or Guide would even have bothered to read the forums or answer your posts even. At least here we get feedback ;)

Little gunshy from Horizons, eh? It's ok, we all are... all of us who stuck it out with them.

There are big differences, though. This is month 1, not month 10, for starters.

I took a 4 level rollback and what's more, the same spots aren't spwning the resources I harvested so I feel pretty bad about it. We did get warnign the server was coming down, we did get about a 4 hour rollback that wasn't preannounced. I submitted a ticket and did get a GM in game explain to me why there was a rollback. I think the communication here is starting off orders of magnitude better and, hopefully will stay good.

I, too, am nervous but this isn't AE and while there are similarities in any game launch, I don't think this game is going down that one way road to hell. It's all in the hands of Nevrax, let's hope they study AE's history.

Reasons for a rollback...

People exploit dupping, trading said goods/daps to people, who then trade to other people, who then trade to other people, who then....well you get the picture...

Kinda like money laundering ey?

Some characters didn't save, while others did. That was the problem we had. Of course a side-effect of this problem was that some things could be exploited. Quite an ugly side-effect indeed... but as previously stated, the character save system has been revised to make sure it won't happen again.

From the UK boards. This was my point. Tell the truth, not some made-up story and certainly don't contradict yourselves across your boards. It causes a lack of faith. Definitely a problem if you want to keep people playing. No faith, no trust, no customers.

What did they hide or lie about? He wasn't talking about the rollback, he was talking about the original issue. Some toons weren't saved under certain conditions (client crashes/quitting). Hand items over, crash/end task, log in, you still have items cause it reverts to your last auto-save.

This did not cause the rollback. He was pointing out the details of the exploit, none of which was ever denied or told differently. *feels like the temper police today*

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All servers are now available again. We have implemented a row fixes, which should improve overall server performance and decrease the amount of "stalls" and client disconnections. We will be monitoring the servers closely to check for any remaining performance issues.

During today's patch, our team had to perform a database rollback in order to deal with character save problems, which occured close before we took the servers down for the patch. The rollback varies between 30 minutes and 2.5 hours for characters, who were logged in to the game before the patch. The character saving system has been revised with today's patch (which is why we had to leave the servers down longer than previously announced) to prevent this from happening in the future.

Sorry for the mess guys. I can assure you that all responsible programmers have been group-slapped adequately. They would like you to know they're truly sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.

Hes talking about the rollback here @aelvana - and he does NOT mention it to be the CAUSE but a RESULT.

And btw: Its honorable to defend a games flaws, after all tastes are different and you cant make the perfect MMORPG for everyone. This is legitimate for players as the GAME is their mutual interest and it may even bet heir "duty" - if they want a game to grow despite of problems that may occur.

Defending company policy to no end is different. You dont need to be a gamer to do that and you dont need to share interest in a game, you dont even need to play the game at all. There are numerous enough other reasons to do so.
