Raids, Rites or PvP? If you had to choose just one?
Re: Raids, Rites or PvP? If you had to choose just one?
Voted Rites but wouldve voted for complex events like the build and man outpost one if it had been an option (i dont count these as Raids) , that was very close to being spot on only spoiled by the placing of some of the outposts near to regular mob spawns (who proceeded to destroy all the guards overnight) and the token clicking

Re: Raids, Rites or PvP? If you had to choose just one?
I voted raid, yet I do enjoy the rites because of the gift/rewards you earn only by doing a rite.
pvp is fun to a certain extent, but i would not play this game if the were to be the main focus of the game.
the raid gives groups to come togther working as teams to defeat foes.

Re: Raids, Rites or PvP? If you had to choose just one?
Well, for starters I'm a melee fighter primarily (alothough I don't like the system really). So my views are coming from a my perspective as a melee.
Raids - Not been in one. Have seen videos/heard descriptions, etc..They seem like they are quite fun. Everyone gets together and kills the stuffing out of whatever mobs are attacking a given area. Nice.
PvP - While I am a PvP fan it's really not a big part of the game as of yet. Outposts do sound pretty good, but it's one of those that you have to wait and see how good it is (if it ever gets here). I have done some dueling, which was alright.
Rites - I haven't heard/seen any rites that give any type of meaningful reward to melee a character. That's about it on that.
If I knew about the PvP system a bit more, I'd say hands down PvP is what I want. Raids although I haven't done one seem like the most fun in the game as far as combat is concerned. Rites seem pointless to me right now. So Raids gets my vote...for now.

Re: Raids, Rites or PvP? If you had to choose just one?
I voted for rites. To me they are good mechanistic content and an ideal way to tie the lore to the game, and I love the feelings of unlocking and completing encyclopedia pages. Heart sank when I read they say 'since we are not working on the rites fast enough we might as well not work on them' ..

Re: Raids, Rites or PvP? If you had to choose just one?
Choice 'PvP' seems to be only one that could provide any lasting appeal. If outposts are implemented properly it creates new significant minigame(s) within Ryzom.
I suspect that you can't have raid events often enough to be major time sink in Ryzom or raids will grow old fast. Dynamic raid engine where players' actions could trigger mini raids seem to be too far away that I could consider it as realistic choice here.
Rites could provide occasional break from usual activities but even if there was 100 rites active, those would not take long to finish. Replay value with rites is next to nil.
I don't see need to bash Nevrax about decision to concentrate making outposts right. That said, I would like to get some rites and raids also. Even if just some simple ones that won't require major code revamps.

Re: Raids, Rites or PvP? If you had to choose just one?
I voted RAID just because it had the greatest expandibility of the three.
Rites - No matter which way you cut it, there will only be a limited amount of rites. That limit might be 100 or 100,000, but it can be reached given enough time. More rites can be added, but the effort spent by the design team to create new and original rites would be immense. The time spent on this would be only the time it took you to do "x" rites, where "x" is the current number of rites available.
PvP - Once again, the same problem as in rites, expect slightly different; there are a limited number of players in the game. Inevitably, there will be a set of strongest, whether for guilds or players, that will dominate all PvP encounters. The dev team has noted this with the outposts (however un-implimented they are), creating motivations for larger and more efficient guilds. Yet, there will be some degree of dominance: the strongest players would have the most influence by nature alone. Time spent on this would be the time it took you to become one of those strongest, whether in fighting or contributing to weapons and armor used in PvP.
RAID - Stop thinking of Ryzom in first-person for a moment, and get a bird's-eye view of the map. See it as a RTS map, with the kitin being the opposing force; using kiban to harvest mats to produce workers, kipesta signaling kirosa when they spot a player, kipee converting towns into hives when they have fallen. Any level player could contribute; low-levels eliminating kirosta and kizoar scouts, med-levels ambushing kipucka caravans, and high-levels taking on the queens. Or, if you just want to think in the 'now' of the engine, imagine a RAID where all the kipee were boss level, or something hideous like that. Also, RAID doesn't need to be restricted to kipee alone. With the whole bandit deal that's popping up in the story now, think of a RAID of bandits. Time spent with RAIDs inceases as the number and level of the opposing kipee increase, as well as with the frequency of the RAIDs.
As an afterthought, these are not nessicarily exclusive of each other. It could be possible to defend outposts against both kipee attacks and rival guilds, have rites that are RAID-specific, players of one faction being allowed to disrupt a rival faction's defence against a RAID, or have rites that require a certain degree of PvP in order to complete them. Or all of them in one big bundle.
So that's my take on it. Excuse my long-windedness.

Voted Raids,
Missed the last one
Also make them easier for the lower levels!

Re: Raids, Rites or PvP? If you had to choose just one?
I voted rites.
Raids at the moment are owned by nukers backed by healers. Not that much fun for a melee or low level.
PvP seems rather pointless at the moment. Maybe GvG will be better.
Not that rites don't need work too. More melee-oriented ones, more complex, and more story-connected would be good.

Re: Raids, Rites or PvP? If you had to choose just one?
Voted Raids. But its really between raids and rites for me. I love the teaming and work that happens in a good raid. I remember being overtaken in beta by a raid and not knowing what ws going on but still running head long into the fighting. It was glorious.
But I love solo play. I like doing things on my own. Sometimes I jsut don't wanna team with people. And sometimes i jsut don't know what to do with myself. So I like doing the rites as it gives me a little something to do that I enjoy and I can do at my leaisure.
I'd vote for both if I could. Adrenaline jsut won out for me this time.

Re: Raids, Rites or PvP? If you had to choose just one?
voted raids as even as I missed the last one the one back in jan was excellent, back then I was a humble lvl 90 healer and still had a part too play (anyone remember the clever leader who ran the who group through Aens camp)
but RAIDS yes more and more of em, not just kitins, send NPC's, gingo raids, Mektoub raids, yubo invasions and I'll be there
