Raids, Rites or PvP? If you had to choose just one?

Post by trenker »

If you had to choose between the following three types of content: Raids, Rites or PvP, what would you choose?

Raids = Kitin invasion, massive battles homins versus monsters, maybe the odd item reward or dappers but not much else.

PvP = Outposts and fighting for them against other guilds. Fighting between Karavan and Kami players. Maybe substantial material benefits from outposts.

Rites = Missions that give you character skills and associated rewards.

If you would rather have something else or non of the above please dont vote. But hypothetically, if you had to choose just ONE, what would your preference be?

Thanks.

I voted Raids, however, I was torn between Raids and the PvP option (but only because that includes Outposts). It depends so much on how well these things are executed. If any one of these three options are added in the game but are poorly executed, they won't make things any better.

I'd love to see Outposts finally show up, however, I can easily envision a system where the outposts simply become a token that to fight over with no meaningful benefit. If that were the case, it'd be fun at first to take and defend outposts but would soon lose its appeal because there's no real purpose.

On the other hand, they could create a system where there's really great benefits for holding an outpost; where taking and defending an outpost is more than just combat (post #2 here to see what I mean). If they deliver a really engaging outpost system like that, it could be a huge turnaround for the game.

Likewise, I think raids can be done incredibly well but can also be dreadfully dull. If they just throw a small raid at us once in a while that takes a few hours to fight off and has no real impact one way or the other, that's not going to enhance my gaming experience a lot. But if they design raids such that there's real, visible effect for our actions or inactions and that bring in all levels and different skills of characters, then it could be a very fun system.

Ultimately, I voted for raids because we've seen a raid that comes reasonably close to meeting my own criteria for a successful, meaningful event (posts #1 and #6 here, if interested). I've seen raids in practice and know that the system is very close to providing what I want. Outposts, however, are still a huge unknown.

Rites?

I find earning fame a completely unenjoyable chore. Currently there are no rite rewards that I really care about having so I don't feel bad ignoring missions almost completely. I've spent a few hours here and there working on the Natural Resources Matis Food rite for about the past month (my first rite, finally working on the ritual task), and that's too much. If they added more rites with better rewards I might actually have to spend more precious game hours doing missions and it would probably make me cranky. I'll pass ;)

Outposts/PvP?

I want Outposts flavored with some PvP. Unfortunately, it sounds like they're planning PvP flavored with some outposts. Actually, I really really dream about DCC's vision of the game of power and influence, and outpsts are the logical first step in making that happen. But that seem soooo far off it's hard to get excited about it. :p Which leads me to.....

Raids?

I spent thte first four months of my playtime without a single raid event. It's been tough, but the wait was worth it. While the recent events have been largely unorganized and not particularly deep, I still love it! I've read a lot about past ones and it sounds like they can get much more interesting. I'm sure if the devs put time into building up some big long drawn out ones they could be absoltuely amazing. I'm pictuting wins AND LOSSES, and every last homin having to band together in a variety of ways to complete goals. :D Raids get my vote!

*snorts RAIDs for breakfast*

Keep the votes coming in guys (and the great comment). Let your friends know about the poll.

Do you want to avoid PvP? Now's your chance to tell Nevrax to crank up the Rites. Do you find rites boring and drool at Raids? As for me, I actually like a fair heap of PvP, but I'd rather Raids by miles.

hmm.. raids.
the last kitin raid in fount was nothing more than kitin boss on steroids ;-( kill boss and all event kitins dissapear - it would be a lot better if you need to wipe out all event mobs, not just boss(es)

so, i voted rites.

I vote for Raids, I still think they're an important part of our game that should continue to happen & keep the community happy, however I do feel Raids need some improvment as aylwyne suggested.

PvP & Rites have a place in Ryzom but we're just not clued up enough or happy enough with them, I think.
We've not been given THAT much info or opertunity to suggest what we'd like to see in outposts/PvP.
Plus Rites are just such a chore at the moment I think they need a real revamp..

PvP = Outposts and fighting for them against other guilds. Fighting between Karavan and Kami players. Maybe substantial material benefits from outposts.

Rites = Missions that give you character skills and associated rewards.
Raids = haven't been in one yet, except that one back in January, and even only the tail end of it (work graveyard, and live in alaska, so keep missing this stuff, go figure) From what I hear, they can be drool-worthy, or they can be a click-fest (tokens anyone?)

PvP = The runs that I have done are cool, the events that people make are cool, and since I joined this game for possibly the best crafting in any game I have seen that isn't a stand-alone, no-internet game, I'm just drooling at the prospects (literly) of the outposts.

Rites = The third reason why I bother grinding, well, fourth, if you count friendship. Spent and entire 2 weeks on my hands and knees digging, just to do the one in Matis. Throw some more out there (that are worth it, not like that 'place more markers' stuff), and I'll be more than happy.

End result: Didn't vote, since I like all of them equaly. And now, I must go drink, lest I die of dehydration.

I voted for raids, and I agree with aylwyne's point of view. The raid in January 05 earlier this year was close to those criteria aylwyne laid forth. While I like the idea of outposts, who knows how long those are off, and everything is there to do a massive raid. Give us a raid where if we don't get off our homin hinies to defend and beat back a massive kiting invasion we loose a city and said city becomes a kitin nest or there is some seen effect upon the game world based on whether we win or loose. It would also be kewl if a statue and/or memorial of some kind was placed at the scene of the major battles telling of the date of and about the battle.

The community and gaming world was the main reason I bought and subscribe to SoR, but the raids were another reason too.
