Humour is good for making points, but people do often take it the wrong way.

C'est la vie.

Yeah, it is funny (in a not so humorous way) that I was proved wrong before I even posted... Guess I should have refreshed before hitting submit.

Oh, well. I thought it was funny. Much better than pointing fingers at others; let them point at themselves.

Oh, and YOU decided this ? I never had to click on a box that said that you dictated how I should play.

I won't deny you that self righteous attitude anymore than I deny others the right to kill in a clearly labeled PvP zone. I will play/RP in my little niche in the middle somewhere...

Seems to me your going out of your way lately to start up things with specific individuals as well as certain player types...

Might be because they allow you to call folks names like in your topic title that empowers you to act this way ? We have already seen certain RPers getting different treatment....

Perhaps because I see them putting at risk something special and different here. I can appreciate Nevrax's economic necessity to appeal to that sector but some people do so responsibly and in context and others do not. I feel they are damaging the appeal and feel of a game I care quite passionately about. So I get a bit antsy.

You seem to be getting defensive, perhaps something stung?

The quiz is a joke but trying to illustrate certain aspects of antisocial and game-damaging behaviour. I don't think there's anything TOO controversial about wanting people to consider other players and not be quite so selfish, mean or nasty.

Is there?

Or is that sort of level of common courtesy too much to ask for even?

This the same "common" courtesy where you call folks that don't play the way that suits you a "Mektoub's Ass" that you wish cancer of the genitals on ?

Hiding behind sarcasm is no different then the same folks you berate for hiding behind RP to kill diggers...

No, I'm calling people who act selfishly and disrupt events for other people 'Mektoub's Asses'. Unless you're advocating such behaviour? Its not a factor of choice, or not liking to RP, its just being a selfish muppet. No more, no less. You can not like RP at all, it doesn't mean you have to spoil things for people, does it?

I'm yet to see anyone actually hide behind RP to kill diggers, those who do don't seem to find an excuse especially necessary, it would be nice if they did.

Actually, before this descends too far into acrimony and flaming...

Look at it this way.

I'm just using a bit of humour to try and draw attention to people's bad behaviour. Whether they're into RP, PvP, soloing, crafting or wearing giant inflatable moose heads while spanking midgets doesn't matter.

What matters is that they are actively damaging the experience of others.

I have no way, other than effective argument, to 'impose' my vision or desire upon the game and, indeed, my ideal would be one where there was room for everyone to have precisely what they wanted (you never know, R2 may give this).

That's an uneven relationship though.

I have no way to impose my will or game vision upon the game but those whose style and personal ethics are divergent from mine too.

I have no way to experience the full game AND avoid what I consider to be pointless PvP. A choice not to PvP denies me access to the PR, would deny me access to outposts and would shut me out of much of the Jena invasion storyline.

I have no way to make people behave considerately and responsibly to their fellow players during events, but one muppet with an axe to grind, a big ego, a lack of maturity or a streak of munchkinism can wreck an event for a huge swathe of people and there's nothing to be done.

They get to impose what they like on people who don't like it, there's nothing that can be done in the opposite direction.

There's a disparity there.

Grimjim, great 'quiz.' I have seen a couple of (players) events now that got spoiled by players with a bad taste (by talking through the story that was told, etc) which was quite a shame.
I really hope these people learn a bit from your sarcasm.

/diplomat

Vguerin, Grimjim, I can be wrong, but I get the impression you both want the same thing. A good (mature) game, in which RP is possible and the players have fun. You two are both known to love the game, both on your own way. I think you both want events to be fun and a both want to ropeplay.

As I read the first part of the post, I read a post of somebody who is concerned about how players behave during an event. He might be a bit rude at the end, but the concern is true. (I just hope Vguerin agrees with this..)

Anybody can agree or disagree with how Grimjim mentions the things in his post, as anybody can agree or disagree what he has to tell. Those are different things...

Yes, yes there is...unfortunately...

It isn't in societal fashion to care about others. :(

Anyway...
Q1 - Nothing has happened for, ooh, at LEAST thirty seconds. Do you...
C) Chat quietly with your team or help the guides build up the event by talking in character?

Q2 - The guide characters are trying to set the scene for the upcoming event with some roleplay and exposition. Do you...
C) Aid the build up by talking in character, arguing about the in game issues of the day or acting like good little soldiers?

Q3 - The gathered players are from a lot of different levels and a lot of different computer set ups. Some aren't as fast or as high level as you. Do you..
D) Follow the nearest player blindly since even the frippo are likely higher level than me.

Q4 - The event passes through a PvP zone. Do you...
C) Ignore it, unless it's part of the event?

Q5 - Someone outside your team drops dead in front of you during the event. Do you...
C) Help them up, strength in numbers?

Q6 - The event is over. Time to go, but a few people are still hanging around. Do you...
C) Go to hang out at an in game bar and have a bull session about the event and revealed lore?
So...I'm guessing that's something like a zero? XD

Did i miss another event :D I was online but got catched by some RL things.
Well, grimjim pointed out that the quiz is to be taken with humor. Although there is some sarcasm in it, it is humor.

Myself never took part in any event that was not disturbed and i posted this fact one or two times earlier. So i agree 100% with the evaluation of the quiz.

Some people do not know how to act within social structures and beeing totaly anonymous makes it quite easy to be a Mektoub ass. Most of them would be nice boys if you meet them in a cinema. They would keep quiet and switch of their cell phones. But not ingame... Everyone should decide by himself what to think about such players.

But i guess it cant be helped. This is how the online gameworld is.

grimjim, it sounds like you did not have fun at this last event. I thought this was a well run event and had lots of fun. I saw very little of what you're talking about in this post at the event. Everyone I talked to had fun, I'm sorry you did not.
It takes all kinds of people to make an event fun, even the so called "Mektoub's Ass" can make an event fun, they adds a touch of realisum to it. Could it be you came to the event expecting this type of thing and that is all you got out of it? Try to have fun and focus on the good people.

P.S. I got a 0 on your quiz. :)
