What if I wanted a character that had an attack, only attack magic spells and NO melee. Can it be done and if so is it a viable set-up? Can an attack magic user gain skill points to raise strength/met ?
Also, I would have him learn harvesting and crafting...

Can I make a magic only player...viable?
Re: Can I make a magic only player...viable?
Yes u can easily do such character, specialised mage only but....meele skills can grant u bigger amount of HP and this is essence for every mage beacuse of :
-credits used to shoot spells
-compensate using light armors with almost no protection
So imo there is no other way no matter how u dislike meele fighting to avoid training it especially if u r seriously thinking about powerful magic

I'm my self very new in game, but basicly You can do that, but it's not recommend.ippon wrote:What if I wanted a character that had an attack, only attack magic spells and NO melee. Can it be done and if so is it a viable set-up?
This game is design so that been generalist is better than specialist. At least in the begin of the advetures career. This is side effect how the skill point system works and many skills can be found in different professions trees. I think later this isn't so much issue, but first be carefull when buying skills. Example: no point waisting magic skill points to buy HP, as You can do that as been fighter.
Also You can't raise skills what does not belong somehow in that category of profession. More accuracy, if it's usefull in current profession, You can usually buy those skills, but some skills aren't usefull in all professions. Example magic user doesn't usually use focus or stamina.

You should get at least basic healing spells for hp, sap and stamina from defensive magic tree. This will help your team to regenerate faster or resurrect fallen companions. Everyone is expected to have at least heal 1 and lack of it will have big impact in finding teams and staying in those.

Generalist is be better than specialist, of course, but per unit time spent, your strongest power gain by far will be leveling your main line. In 250 levels worth of time, getting one line to 250 would make you a MUCH stronger mage than splitting the time between magic and fight. Of course, that would probably be sooooo boring 8)
