Well, one of my guildmates logs on Ventrilo today, says hes tryin out some game called Saga Of Ryzom. Figure what the hell, ill give it a DL too. I enjoy what the game seems to offer so far, which is quite a bit of freedom. However, my friend bought a skill that was for the wrong weapon. Which brings me to my question, can you remove skills and expirement a bit? Are there some links to a guide that could be useful for either of us? Both of us are Fighter/Fighter/Fight (The action packs) and I rather avoid making dire mistakes, if its possible to do so.

Generally full fight packs arnt the best idea. Idealy you should go for magic/harvest/craft so you have access to all skills (fight is a free skill). However, later on you will have more than enough skill points for every skill, so its not going to do you permanent damage.

You cannot refund skills, but as I said you can get enough skill points to get everything eventually, so its not a permanent mistake. Although while still lower level it is often an idea to mess around with a char, then start over so you know which skills to get right away. Its completly up to you.

You cannot make dire mistakes, so dont worry about it, just will take you a few more levels to buy the skill is all :)

IMPORTANT NOTE: These forums filter out threads that are more than a month old so when you first go to that forum, you may not see very much. To change this, go to the User Control Panel, which is an option in the "Forum Jump" combo box at the very bottom of the page (it's toward the top of the list in the combo box). In the User Control Panel, pick on Edit Options and change the value for the "Default Thread Age Cut Off" option.


As for skills, there's no way to unlearn a skill and regain the skill points. At the very beginning of the game, this can be pretty frustrating as skill points are a little harder to come by. However, in the long run, there's FAR more skill points available than skills to train in. If you end up training in a skill you didn't really want, I usually recommend just going out and getting more levels so you can train in other skills.

Once you read some of the info in the beginner's guide forums, you may decide you want to reroll and pick different starting packs (the most common recommendation is craft/harvest/magic as you don't need any special skills to start fighting). Since you're only a day into it, rerolling isn't really a problem if you decide to but overall, it's not necessary in Ryzom as there's no classes or limits on skills/levels you can obtain.

there is also dedicated place for questions from new players http://www.ryzom.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=87 . Although it is ok to ask in general forum too, but you might find some interesting questions already answered in dedicated section.

Worry not, you can't make dire mistakes as skill points will be plenty later on. At first, selecting unusable skills may slow progress a little bit (especially if it is expensive skill) but skill tree will split at lvls 21,51,101... and you can gain some extra skill points by training secondary branches.

Usually new players are advised to select magic, forage and crafting action packs as it gives most skill points worth of skills. This is because starting those skills requires 50 skill point investment from any other skill, if you want to try other skills also. On the other hand, 3 fight packs gives you small initial edge at start in melee. Starter pack selection won't matter later on.

You should train const, strength, metabolism and stamina attributes (in that order), increased damage and accurate attack skills. Those are most useful skills for melee fighters.

It would be very good idea to train ablittle bit of magic even if that would not be your thing. You will get quite soon healing spells for hp and stamina that you can use to reduce regeneration time and resurrect teammate.

I'd suggest trying everything with the idea in mind that you're gonna reroll after a couple days 8) Fight is the only skill that doesn't take 50 skill points to be able to use, so a lot of people go for magic/craft/harvest. It's also easy to get any extra fight SP you need by leveling other fighting braches a little.

Well, I went with what you guys suggested, and it worked fine. Got fighting to 20, then im gonna get Magican to 20. Then ill likely move to the mainland. I assume I can do crafting and harvestin later on.

Thats pretty much what I did when I started. Worked fine for me.
