The Idea won't be to attack RP'ers and it should have a system where if someone is 10 / 30 levels lower you in X Tree you can't attack them inless attacked first.dazman76 wrote:PFFT TBH m8 I think ur having a laff, pvp is fer teh n00bs TBH m8! @Carrie, I wouldn't be concerned. I have a feeling PvP will be pushed by the Devs, and they won't be stopping for player feedback (I don't know figures, but I guess 50% or more of the current players don't even do PvP - and the PvP changes keep coming).
I honestly think going too far with PvP will kill the game outright - we currently have a large number of RP players here, and once they start getting random nukes from RP-disliking types when they're minding their own business, they have 2 choices. Either RP in a dark corner, or RP in another game. I think I know which they'll choose (although dark corners can be fun)...

Speaking for yourself, maybe

Yes, you could stop people attacking due to levels, but that brings it's own balancing problems, and makes the encounters un-natural in some situations. For example, when you don't know the level of your intended target.
P1: Have at you beast, I bring thy downfall with this sword
P2: ...
P1: Hmm my PvP is borked, one sec...
P2: Here let me do it... *slap*
P1: Er, can you res me so we can try that again?
P1 deserves a beating down for starting the affair, but he also deserves to at least *try* and hit P2 before the impending slap of doom.

Re: Ryzom going Open PvP?
As I have stated several times in the past regaring PvP, if it is allowed to dominate the game, those who do not wish to participate will eventually leave. It will mean the demise of SoR. If this is the intent of Ryzom, so be it. DDO & Oblivion are only a few months away. You will definitely find me in DDO which sounds more like the game SoR originally intended to be.
Re: Ryzom going Open PvP?
man... the few pvp moments i have had were exhilirating in ryzom
but thast cause they were shrouded in story, or due to some common goal (lol fighting over resource nodes)
i think even most everyone is for PvP if it is in line with the story, then again, in fairhaven yesterday everyone was all about keeping the peace :-p
We will have to see how they go about doing the faction thing. They have not said if it will be based on your fame, or if you will be given the option.
i would love open pvp just because i think that people are nice enough in this game that you wouldnt get purposeless ganking

Re: Ryzom going Open PvP?
My worry is that I came to SoR to get away from the "l33t" of WoW. I'm starting to worry that that might be what SoR is going to turn into.
Re: Ryzom going Open PvP?
Take a look around you in game this aint like WoW or GW we are all mature peeps here, that why we are all here still cos the comunity here has something that non other comes close to. Alot came from beta thinking we would be teaming together to fight off the great kitin raids, now the raids may not be coming but the fealing of friendship and unity are still with us. We can play PvP for fun or as a filler but it wont replace what alot of us really want. I say lets just roll with it and have some fun.wooden7 wrote:My worry is that I came to SoR to get away from the "l33t" of WoW. The faction PvP area (in Sawdust Mines at least) is based on your fameamitst wrote:

Re: Ryzom going Open PvP?
You should read Davids letter complete. Its is just about vision. It shows a lot about the initial idea. Its all about factionbased conflict on a much larger scale (chessboard)
Maybe it was a big mistake to start SoR like they did. The game evolved in a different way. Now its very hard for Nevrax to finish the game like it was intended. You can say that no plan survives first contact with the enemy, but this game is a startup project. Other companies know this. Thats why some games are so erm.. mainstreamed.
In such a scale factionbased PvP ist completely different. Its like i live in germany and a faction in australia does not like me. I would not care the first 6-12 months ingame
.
If SoR would reach such a scale it would be completely different.
Again, i do not talk about the current state of the game. Faction is atm completely useless, only good for some RP.
Under normal circumstances i am not a fan of PvP, but nevertheless i would have played the first weeks or months different if my faction would have had any consequences.
. We still have to wait and see what these benefits are that where mentioned a couple of times. They are the key to everything. Here are some thoughts about it:
- lets asume you get a bonus in HP and/or SAP and/or STAM and/or FOCUS if you hold an outpost
- lets asume you get even more bonus when you hold two outposts, tree outpost, ...
- lest asume you get even more bonus the more outpost are owned by your faction
And this on a large scale (+95% playable areas on a couple of planets) the chessboard game starts that David mentioned.

really, you have to experience it to understand this. Due to NDA i can not say too much, but imagine a lake triple the size of lakelands. And this lake ist just a blue dot on the worldmap...dazman76 wrote:
Atys as we know it is pretty huge - well, huge compared to the player population anyway. We have 5 entire continents (the 5th is spread out, but piece it together and it's comparable I *think*), spanning a large virtual area. To think that this is only 5% of the real Atys just doesn't cut it - what's the other 95%, the same thing with trees in different places? The same mobs but different spawns? Creating new resources of any kind takes time, even if it's creating new mobs using the 'boss mob' technique (same mob, diff. textures, diff. AI values).

I dont think it will go full-PvP. But with outposts there will be more of it. At least it is intenteddazman76 wrote: And once more of this remaining 95% is revealed, what happens to our current 5%? The playerbase could harldy 'populate' what we have at the moment, if you didn't close the original 5% when some more areas open, the playerbase would be even thinner that it is now. What good is a continent of 5 people?
I respect David for all he's achieved, but I feel this one comment blows that respect to pieces. It simply isn't believable, unless this remaining 95% is empty, boring and devoid of anything new at all.
Sorry to hijack a PvP thread, but since Ryzom will not go full-PvP without losing most of it's players, I don't feel too guilty.
