There is no "wrong" choice, but the harvest/craft/magic is more efficient because melee is the easiest to start without a starting pack.jcatlin wrote:Seems like I read something to this effect elsewhere, but I know I wouldn't remember it hehe. I'll probably go with the harvest/craft/magic 3 pack then.
The problem is experience vs risk/challenge. If you fight a mob at your level, but are teamed with a lvl 100 healer (for example), neither of you will get much xp, if any. If you try to fight a mob at the higher level, you'll die. Or it'll take so long it won't be worth it. Most likely, you'll just die. This is probably food for a new thread, but how does grouping work for someone who's new like myself and others that are much farther along?
Generally, it's more efficient to hook up with folks if roughly the same level ability you are planning to use. (give or take about 20 levels.)
When I was first starting out, I was often invited into higher level groups by my guildmates and it generally worked OK as long as:
1. If you're healing, make sure they don't *need* you. i.e. if you are the only healer, you're going to have a hard time keeping up. But, if you are an additional healer in a group, it should be ok.
2. If you're fighting or nuking, try not to go too high a level or you won't connect with the mobs. Get to know the regions and what levels/colors they contain. Blue=1-50, Yellow=51-100, etc. If you're under level 50 and try to join a group in the red zone (151-200), you're gonna have a hard time hitting anything. If you hit once, you get a full share of the xp. If you don't hit, you don't.
3. They were already getting the maximum xp allowed (3000) and my presence didn't cause that to drop.
Some high level groups won't take a lower level player because it'll reduce the experience everyone gets (experience is based on levels and number of players in the group, divided evenly). I usually only joined a higher level group when my guild invited me too. I didn't ask non-guild groups because I didn't want to impose if I couldn't help.
For now, I'd suggest you start with the Region chat and just tell people you are looking for a hunt group and tell them what skill/level you want to work. Some days you'll find someone; some days you won't. Whenever I can't find someone to hunt with, I take it as a sign that it's a good day to dig. Try to work a variety of different skills to avoid burnout on any one thing.
