General info for new players.

Post by suib0m »

Hello, and welcome to Ryzom.

The information presented here will hopefully be a good foundation to get folks on their way.

** How do I start playing?
My basic suggestion here would be to use Region chat and see if anyone else wants to group. This is generally a good way to start and there are often folks on the island that are there to help new players.

** I chose <skill X> for all my starter skills, was that a good choice?
There are many different answers to this, and to be honest, your first character is usually a throw-away character as you figure the game's complexities out. Most folks will tell you to choose magic/craft/forage as your starter skillset, as this will allow you the most opportunities at the least initial cost.

** How do I make money?
The easiest way to make dappers starting off is by killin critters, looting them and selling the materials to the vendors. As your skills progress, crafting becomes a very good way of making dappers.

** What do I kill?
The basic mob progression is as follows:
suckling yubo -> suckling bodoc -> suckling capryni
weanling yubo -> weanling bodoc -> weanling capryni
weeny ragus -> weeny gingo -> puny ragus ** aggro mobs
weeny kipee

** It's really hard to progress as a <insert non-fighting skill here>.
Generally, it is important when starting to have a decent base of hit points if soloing, or group with others who will help offset your skills. My own suggestion is to buy a dagger (if you don't already have one) as soon as possible, then work melee up to somewhere between lvl 10 and lvl 20. Make sure to max Con and Metabolism to get a solid base of HP under you. After this, you can focus on your skill of choice and have a much easier time of things.

** When should I travel to the mainland?
This is often debated, with no specific answer. Your best bet is to leave when you have a sufficient grasp of some fundamental concepts.
- How characters progress and how the skill tree is set up. Take some time in exploring the skill tree to see what skills will be available to you.
- How to modify skills using stanza bricks. This is crucial knowledge, learn it and understand it as soon as possible.
- How mob AI function works. You can get quite a bit of information about a place and how to move about it relatively safely by watching the Native creatures and what they do.
- Action Malus. The heavier your equipment, the more it affects your actions, ask around for the differences in weight, quality, and properties of various equipment. One of the most interesting aspects of Ryzom is how controllable the equipment creation can be.

** Where can I get more info?
This forum is probably going to be a great place for starter info. Also, check out the GFunk tutorial videos hosted by Acridiel here - http://www.nws-productions.de/index.php ... &Itemid=23

Notes: I'll update this as needed. Hope you don't mind me linking your GFunk video collection directly, Acridiel. Wrote this at work, ran outta time, there's more stuff that should be here I'm sure :)

Above all, enjoy!!
