Ryzom is a sandbox game, if you look for it, if you make it, there's plenty to do. It just requires a different approach to many other MMOs that some people can't adjust to.
>2. Low player populateion. World seems deserted
Where are you?
Zorai is pretty sparse but the rest are generally busy.
Bare in mind also that it's summer, and very hot. People often have 'better' things to do
>1. Content!!! Where is it? Quests are pretty much of one variety and are >generally not worth the rewards.
This question/protest is really beginning to irk me and apologies for you being the trigger for my ire...
What the hell do people mean by 'content'?
You have a living world, a great background, a fantastic and roleplay friendly community, you have intereliant crafters/foragers and hunters, you have an oncoming war storyline, you have lots of events - both player and guide created. You have stories, you have background...
So, what DO you mean by content? You mention quests? Does this mean you want the same cookie-cutter repeated, instanced questing as every other MMO? IMO it is a blessing we don't have those. When you get involved in an event in Ryzom it means something, its not just another notch on your levelling post. You can gain meaningful fame (amongst the playerbase) and, very rarely, a meaningful reward - one that commemorates a unique event, time and place in Ryzom's history.
The main reward of missions, not quests, is fame.
The main reward of encyclopaedia missions is extra power/s, extra stanzas or new craft patterns. At least so far. They actually make sense in context though, rites of passage rather than slaying the same ghost pirate that everyone else on the server has.
>2. Exploring or lack of there of. Since it seems to be impossible to utrun >monsters, I can only go as far as I can kill everything. Even if it was posible, >whats the point? Monsters only drop raw mats, so its not like I am going to >find something interesting.
Ryzom is very much an exploration game, so much to see and investigate (and get killed by). It is POSSIBLE to reach every land at level 1, purely by sneaking. Possible, not easy. It is also actually possible to outrun monsters now, but you'll need enough armour/hp or speed run power to do it.
Yes, monsters (almost all) only drop mats. That's another good thing about Ryzom IMO, no stupid drops (daggers from rats) and, in general, no uber loot items. This makes the world more plausible and consistent. The only uber loot we have (Boss Armour) has caused more problems and hassle than just about anything else in the game and I really wish they'd never put it in, reserving it for event prizes or something >
>3. Just a general lack of things to do besides grinding especially if crafting is >not your thing.
Think bigger.
Roleplay, read the background, fit yourself into the world, socialise, keep up with and participate in events. There's PLENTY to do.
>Please let me know if I am wrong on anything. I did not spend long enough in >it to pretend to know everything. I'd love to play it, but as it is, it looks like >something I would not mind playing occasionally on a free server--not >something I would pay money for.
Sounds like you were/are too hasty. Expecting to do everything at low level and not getting into Ryzom's more social/RP mindest.
Its not a 'game' game, it's a world and community building game.
