ok, so.. i've tried nearly everything i can think of, including reading the stickies on this page..
i'm using a dell latitude d610 with onboard graphics chipset, intel 915g
here's a report of the accelerator and driver..

i've got an external monitor, keyboard and mouse connected to the laptop, but even disconnecting the monitor and using just the laptop, or just the monitor display dosn't help..
i've tried using the configuration utility to set all details to minimum, disable all the advanced features and tried both opengl and direct3d.. no help..
in the sticky someone said that onboard chipsets except the very newest ones, like my 915 series, wont work.. well, if that person had gotten one of these 915s to work, i'd like to know how ..
thanks for your attention, hope someone can help me..
tried everything, still getting can't create a window message
Re: tried everything, still getting can't create a window message
Unfortunately I do not think that you will be successful in getting Ryzom to run on your system. I have only seen one person able to get the Intel 945 chipset to work with Ryzom, not the 915.

If I were you I wouldnt read zerlin's words this way:
"give up, you can't play ryzom with your built-in video chipset"
but rather:
"you should really spend $120 on some mid range video card and give the game a try cause it rocks ^^"
just an advice from a player to another one...

erf... :s
Okay so lemme rephrase for faile:
"get a desktop comp with a decent, mid range video card, and join us"

Re: tried everything, still getting can't create a window message
well, the thing is I _do_ have a top of the line desktop system which I play ryzom on.. it's just that I'd like to use my laptop on lunchbreaks etc..
now seeing as guildwars, wow and swg all work fine on this one (even with all full details, although VERY slow then) I cant really see what it is that ryzom needs that it cant do?
is there some specific function that prevents the game from being played on laptops? if so, could we get an option to disable it? seeing as there's already options to disable shaders and most of everything else I can't see it would be a question of "we dont want the game to look bad"?
awesome game anyhow, as you can see, i just wish i could play more

If you are feeling adventurous, you can try suggestions from manufacturer's pages: http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/gaming/index.htm
Chances getting Ryzom to work are rather slim, I think.

Well, the main difference is the quality of the gfx in Ryzom. The amount of polygones used in this game is more the double the amount used in the games mentioned above.

I think it had something to do with the pixelshading that is used and cant seem to be turned off.
Just look at it like this:
Ryzom is so very awesome to look at, it just cant be toned down to work on any system. It is a design decision made, simple as that.
Also, looking at games as CoH and WoW. Well, they just seem old-school to me caused by the simple models used and the very basic landscapes.
I know WoW looks good, but that has more to do with a huge amount of money spend on perfecting textures to make the game look like it has more polygones then it actually has. SoR just decided to make models with that *have* the polygones.
This does allow for easier customization like with the Ryzom Ring, as landscapes wont need a 10 year experience in leveldesign to still look good.
Anyway, some laptops have higher end chipsets and work, some dont. If you want to play on lunchbrakes, you have to ask yourself a few questions anyway
Besides, you can always lurk the forums?

No, there is no specific function disallowing SoR to work on a laptop.
From experience SoR should work (more or less) nicely on laptops with following graphics adapters:
ATI Radeon Mobility 9XXX Series (and it surely will work on newer ones, too)
ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 MIGHT work - some managed using Omega Drivers, some didn't, so if you had one, you'd have to take your chances.
Nvidia
GeForce Go! 4 and higher should work fine
SiS
Someone did manage to get SoR up and running with a SiS 651 Chipset integrated graphics - don't ask me how
Intel
945 GM Chipset should work (if Zerlin says so, it should)
915 GM Chipset might work - it's pretty much the same situation than with ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 but only that there are no Omega Drivers afaik...
In general:
Laptops with onboard graphics adapters should work
Laptops with chipset integrated graphics might work but it's likely they don't.
So, what would you need to do?
- start the SoR configuration utility
- go to display
- set all graphics settings to low
- go to display advanced
- check all four checkboxes
- if it fails, try setting the graphics mode to OpenGL or Direct3D instead of Auto
- most important: pray
Edit: It's a pity you don't have the older model, the D600 - I have that one; it features an onboard ATI Mobility 9000 and SoR works, though it's quite slow...
Go forth, live, learn, and most important, live together, not alone, for thou will soon discover there being a great danger, a danger thou never seen afore. The existence of Hominkind is at stake. The Kitin are still on the surface, great numbers of them. Who the Kitin are? Your worst nightmare...
