Pweese 'elp a widdle newbie :P

Post by mukund »

umm just a couple of newb questions id appreciate if ne1 cud answer, basically i wanted to know if your stats such as str/con etc. actually do anything, or do things such as your dodge rate, defense, and attack rely solely on the armor and weapons you use.

also is there any difference between the various weapon types? id appreciate if ne1 could give me a list of the various advantages and disadvantages of each.

thanx alot :)

Those affect your hp,sap, stam and focus max value and regen rate. Also, better items require you to have better stats to use em. Dodge, hit rate etc depends on your level at skill in question. Items can have small effect on these values. Press 'p' to see more info.

daggers are low damage, high speed
1h weapons are mid damage, mid speed
2h weapons are high damage, low speed

Other difference is inflicted damage type piercing, crushing or slashing. Mobs have different natural armor for each damage type. Alos, each damage type has unique special attack: bleed for slashing, ignore armor for piercing and slow for crushing.

2h sword has some additional attributes that are not currently available for other weapons. These are modifiers to your own and opponent's dodge and parry values.

Welcome to Ryzom!

Your stats definitely do matter. First, they control the level and regeneration rate of your 4 bars (HP, Sap, Stamina, Focus). For example, Constitution controls your HP amount and Metabolism controls your HP regeneration rate. You can see these in the character information window ('p' key). The characteristic and the value it controls are on the same line in this window.

Second, several of them control what equipment you can use. For example, strength controls what melee weapons you can use. You can use a weapon that is your strength+10. So if your strength is 30, you can use a Q40 weapon. Heavy and medium armor are limited by your Constitution, magic amplifiers by your Intelligence, and range weapons by your Balance. You can see the specific requirements by right-clicking on a piece of equipment and choosing Info.

The things like dodge/parry and your magic resists can be influenced by your equipment, however, the base values are dependent on your levels in different skills. I can't recall the formulas off the top of my head but there's a few posts on the forums that talk about this.

As for weapon types, there's range and melee weapons. In melee weapons, there's 1 handed, 2 handed, and close combat (daggers or fists). Within 1 handed and 2 handed, there's smashing, slashing, and piercing types (mace, sword, pike, for example). The specific damage type is really up to you. Certain mobs are more resistant to some types than others but no matter what you choose, you'll likely end up fighting some that resist and some that don't.

If you choose 1 handed, you can either dual wield with a dagger or carry a shield. A shield will boost your parry stats a lot but your damage will be lower because you only have a 1 handed sword. It seems like most people choose to go with a 2 handed weapon in melee.

You're only permitted to dual wield with a 1H sword and dagger, no other combinations. One hand spears and axes and maces can only be used with a shield.

Disappointing, I know.... but I suppose it makes a little sense.

And "the base values are dependent on your levels in different skills" means your base dodge ability is calculated using your highest combat level, regardless of your stats and skills within. Then it is modiffed based on your equipment.

For instance, your base parry value is controlled by your highest melee skill. This base number can be modified by the equipment you wear. Similarly, your base parry and magic resistance numbers are controlled by your skill levels.

Mektoubs can be only bought from stables or other players (bought from stables originally). Apartment and guild hall are other storage systems.

I find that Trykers are useful packers for storage as well as, uhm, acquiring items from "hard to reach" places like other homins storage facilities.
Granted they require a lot of handling (more than a herd of cats), but they are quite adept at defending themselves.
