Factions: Where do you fall?
Re: Factions: Where do you fall?
seeing as this isn't on the events forum I'll speak as a human not a homin
A simple question, why are so many people wanting to take no part in this? The story has been building for months now, with many events linking together to lead us to the coming of Jena and a big conflict. Surely not wanting to join in is borking (excuse the pun neun) all the hard word and future plans the event managers have for this?
rushin the character is a fairly peace loving homin, and she has friends from all races. But that is only becuase we have been living in a world without conflict. Before i started playing i had this idea that choosing my race would have a large impact on my experience of Atys. and that karavan supporters would not be welcome in the jungles, and similarly i would not be welcome in matis, of course this wasnt to be and we all played happily together.
Now that this situation looks like it might change i am excited at the prospects for more day to day role play, and that having a surgically implanted mask will have some meaning. I am still going to be friends with the people behind the matis and tryker i know, but my attitude ingame may change.. is it such a bad thing? Lot's of people have trouble finding things to do expect grind, now we are given this oppertunity so many seem to be turning their backs on it...

Re: Factions: Where do you fall?
I think the one thing that leads many people to not want to participate in this holy war event is that they are not interested in PvP.
Players welcome conflict with the kitin and any anything else the environment can throw at them.
I think generally they would even be up to war if it were simply against an army of Karavan or Kami, but when there are other players in that army many will refuse to participate.

Re: Factions: Where do you fall?
PvP can be fun tho as it has been in the past for me (Nexus fighting vs CP & Gfunks friday fight nights) i used to love it, it wasnt about im bigger then you and have more lvls it was just fun 1 side vs another or 4 teams all fighting same time or 6 people vs 14 these events built up new ways of fighting for myself and learning the one golden rule keep healers up. So myself and alot of other homins that have tryed the right way of doing these things look forward to some action

(the following is entirely out-of-character for those that care about such things)sehracii wrote:I think the one thing that leads many people to not want to participate in this holy war event is that they are not interested in PvP.
Another theory: Everyone wants to be the hero in the story (at a minimum, in their own minds).
To be a hero means facing an evil (yes, I'm oversimplifying) and in this case, we're talking about a civil war in which both sides feel they are right. Fighting the Kitin is morally easy; they are big bugs and they can't communicate with us. Fighting each other only because some impersonal force tells us to? Not as emotionally appealing.
Many don't simply want to be a winner (although that's better than losing

On the other hand, the whole thing is a lot more intellectually interesting because we are seeing so many different opinions. It's making people that don't normally roleplay much think about how they should respond and how their character would respond.
I find the "I follow Jena/Ma-Duk no matter what they say/do" opinions the least compelling because that's how you are expected to respond. (I'm not criticizing those players; they've made a choice and are participating; good on them.) The tortured postings of homins trying to figure out how to respond are infinitely more interesting. The additional politics of wondering whether the Matis posturing is not only anti-Kami, but also a threat to their traditional allies was interesting to me.
At some level, I admire Nevrax for the layers of subtlety in this thing. I worry that "gods arriving to lead us to battle" is sort of an end-game type of storyline, but hope that they've got this planned out better than I can forsee.
Just my 2 cents. Flame-retardant caster pants ON.

When I joined Ryzom my perceptions were completely different. The lands had been torn, but homins had joined hands to push back the Kitin menace. The Karavan/Kami were simply those whom we looked to for aid in the struggle against a common foe. Be it Kami with their wonderous Magics or Karavan with their mighty weapons. Kami/Karavan united to force the evil dragon into the depths of Atys in ages of old and now he struggles against his bonds.

Kitin are the Dragon's manifestation! Now having seen that a united force of Homins may defeat his children, he seeks accomplish what they couldn't. The destruction of all Homin kind...
Tis, my belief that it was he who insighted the Fryos to anger the Kitin and it is he who now strives to turn Homin against Homin. His whispers to those in power of the glory of past conquests and ancient animosities are peril to those who would listen. Thou art of thy own mind! Let not those of clouded mind drive you to what you know to be wrong. Turn not on thy friend and brethren. We must has rise up and protect that which we have accomplished together. Let no God or enitity stray us from our path!
We are Homin! We are Free! We should fight only to preserve what we have wrought! Together nothing can tear us asunder....

Re: Factions: Where do you fall?
The story is intended to last for 8 years, of course every (sub) story has an "end game".oldmess wrote:At some level, I admire Nevrax for the layers of subtlety in this thing. But I think they try to open as many doors on the way as well. As has be hinted at in other posts, each story have one or more purposes.
This story line seem to hint at something for the homins to fight about. Ever wondered what that might be (in the short and long run)?

I for one aim willing to fight against any entity...be it god, homin or any other whom would seek to tear us apart!
/OOC I've argued loudly against PVP simply for the sake of PVP. However, given a just cause I will reluctantly raise my sword if it will lead to peace.

Re: Factions: Where do you fall?
That did occur to me. But, it still felt sort of apocalyptic because Jena herself is supposedly going to make an appearance. So, it's hard to see how they do the "next big thing" after we've had gods directly involved. But, I'm just a participant, not the author. I'll just hold on and enjoy the ride.magick1 wrote:This story line seem to hint at something for the homins to fight about. Ever wondered what that might be (in the short and long run)?

Is it not possible that these are false Gods. Perhaps the real Gods are incapacitated. Perhaps we are being tested. To see if we have learned our lessons from past conflicts. "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it"
