A lot of people voted "yes" for potions and "no" for adjustment. They did not understand that the implementation of potions would adjust de facto the way you are playing solo. I'm not saying they are dumb. They will realise that by themselfs.
Most of them don't even try to understand the post. They are posting replies only for the sake of posting.
IF you ask me - and I bet I'll get a lot of flames for that - team XP should be tweaked. Masive.
Let's say if you get 2990 xp for soloing a mob, in a team of 2 players you should get around 750 xp. In a team of 3 peeps - 500... and so on. Basically (xp for solo / nr of players in team) / 2. Maybe divided with 3 or even 4.
I agree with johntf. Playing a mmorpg does not necessary means you have to team with people. You are encouraged but it should not be a MUST. Multiplayer means multiple players, but not teaming or cooperating with those players.
I have the feeling that the ones who desperately support the teamwork ideea are not that experienced as they like us to believe. They can't stand to a challenge alone and they find their strenght in numbers. Of course, after you find the benefits of teamwork, is very hard to throw them away and start soloing. You need balls for that. And they missplaced them I think.
Hmmm.........interesting.
I am one of those supposed "dumb" people who voted "yes" for consumables and "no" to adjust for soloing. I don't think I'm dumb and explained myself pretty well. Just my opinion.
I believe that a developer should not just tweek the game or add content to promote one specific style of play as far as team based or solo play is concerned, but there are certain things that could be done to improve the overall game play of Ryzom that would benefit both solo and team style playing and enrich the player's overall experience. This includes adding consumables with the afore mentioned crafting skills. In addition, adding mounted combat and more mounts would make for another interesting addition in game, and these are just a few things that could be done.
I also don't believe that the xp needs to be adjusted to where one recieves less xp in a team. At higher levels, especially at 201 plus, it is difficult enough to get good xp per kill. Maybe a better tweak would be to give an xp bonus for soloing. That would be the only tweak that I would consider appropiate. If that is what helbreat is referring to in his poll, then I would say yes and have him change my vote to reflect so, but I gathered he meant more than just a simple xp tweak.
I also realize that the "multiplayer" in mmorpg doesn't necessarily mean strictly team play, and I realize that I did not explain myself in my first post very well. Yes, you and others are correct that multiplayer just defines a game where large groups of people come together to play a game, but most mmorpgs have been designed towards team play.
One can solo in Ryzom if they choose to and do just fine, but it is always going to be more risky and time consuming. There are strengths and advantages in numbers both in game and in RL. Lewis and Clark certainly didn't explore the western America's by themselves. I know, I know this is a game and that it doesn't have to reflect reality, but I'm just making an argument for argument's sake.
As far as experience is concerned when one compares a team based player and a solo based player, why rip on someone for how they choose to play the game??? Both styles of play require talent and/or experience. Ever been in a team with a bad or inexperienced healer or melee tank??? My hats are off to those that sneak around and explore Atys by themselves without the benefit of a backup healer or extra punch of another group of nukers and/or melee'rs. I myself have started exploring on my own as one has more time to enjoy the sights and sounds of beautiful Atys. As far as challenge is concerned, try taking a bunch of newbies and/or low level peeps on a world around Atys trek.
