Ryzom forum - Keep it clean!

Post by mafioso »

I'm happy to see that Ryzom is using vbulletin for the forum. That's a very good forum application.
On the other I am missing a lot of features that are available in this version.
This shouldn't be a problem actually but if the different forums are not moderated properly then this will become a problem.
What do I mean? Well for example...The forum is relatively small right now so you can find most threads but what will happen if we hit the 100000 posts and you need to find some info about a certain thing? There is no search function or at least I haven't been able to find it :)
So either activate the search function or start deleting threads that aren't useful. Ee have a lot of those!! (see all those threads from dumb people saying goodbye because the game has some problems)
No complaints in this post, just trying to make Ryzom a better place for everyone :P

PS. To all fellow homins...try to refrain from posting stuff like the above example so the moderators have less work too :)

You can't search when on the top. You have to at least go into one of the branches (e.g European Community) then you will have the search function as a drop down box in the right upper corner of the main area.

Hope this made it clear. It hard to descibe without a screeny.

Thanks for the quick answer guys :P

But don't forget the main issue here is that I think that some posts are useless and if they stay they will just consume space and make it hard for people to find certain posts even though the search function is good :)

Theres always a certain noise to useful ratio of posts on any forums, I'd rather have them working on in game problems that weeding out the unnecessary posts from these forums. Usually 'chatter' topic areas are created for lots of noise, and hopefully some key information are stored in the guides topic areas. I think they've catagorised the forums quite well, enough to hopefully herd the noise away from some of the important stuff we want to read.

Useless noise is inevitable though. Nature of the beast.

I see where you're coming from, but honestly... I don't feel like deleting messages all over the place, just because they aren't "good enough" for this forum. This may be common procedure on some message boards, but as long as our netiquette and forum rules (http://ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=618) are respected, I prefer you guys having as much freedom here as possible, to allow you to interact and develop your community without having to worry about power-mad moderators with a big ego and an even bigger banstick. ;)

If all you want to say is "Ryzom is cool", or "Ryzom sucks!" - you can! We won't be censoring or suppressing opinions here.

Don't get me wrong - We monitor the forums 24/7 and moderate them where appropriate, to make sure they are enjoyable for everyone. But deleting messages will always be a last resort.

The rating feature we have on this forum is a very nice tool to highlight useful postings and threads. You're more than welcome to make more use of it! :)

I agree wholeheartedly ;)

What someone judges as irrelevant to him might be exactly what someone else was looking for anyway. Unless the posts are abusive and break the Rules of Conducts, they should not be deleted.

We do have the greatest community spirit I have seen in my mmorpger life. I worked for the Tazoon fansite (official european site for Horizons) and the whining and bickering was almost overwhelming at times ;)

This is a great place to be while I try to fix my Access Violations issues anyway hehe.

Thanks all and keep this forum as interesting as it has been to read.

Ohh just an idea that popped up in this little birdy brain of mine (happens once a month or so...):

Since there is a post rating feature, why not make a rule where threads that have accumulated lets say a 80-85% rating are copied to a special forum called "Useful Threads" where people cannot start new threads but still reply to those?

This would have two desirable effects I can see:

1) Make a central forum for people looking for important/useful information
2) Encourage players to create useful threads for helping others

Just my two dappers ;)

Brilliant idea Balduk. We do have the best community here don't we? :)
