Is YOUR guild *REALLY* ready for outposts?

Re: Is YOUR guild *REALLY* ready for outposts?
I heard about this and unfortunately forgot about it with everything else going on but there was no way the majority of our guild were going to show up at that time anyway.
It was at 2am on a weeknight (BST), noone who works or studies is going to take part in something that was not likely to finish until 4am. I might stay up for an official event at that time, if it was held on a Friday/Saturday night. A player event, possibly.
I also have my doubts about whether this event is right for us - how am I to know that in the near future, any of the other guilds invited might be our enemies? This event will be a double-edged sword: we will learn a few tactics against other players in gvg combat, but at the same time so do our enemies. We might learn their weaknesses if we pay attention but they will also learn ours.
Maybe if we'd known who was taking part it would have swayed me towards going, or if it was 4 guilds, or if there was a non-aggresion pact or something.
Currently there is a friendly atmosphere between most guilds and in that climate this event is a good idea. When outposts are released, and push comes to shove, things may be very different.
Another point is that some guilds may try and use diplomacy to protect their outpost or hire other guilds to do the dirty work for them. I think a lot of Ryzom players aren't into pvp in general, so they're not going to go for this event. I hope that these non-aggressive players can still hold an outpost. Maybe they can be influential enough to have supporters even in the 'enemy' guild, or in enough other guilds who will readily defend their outpost giving any single guild of attackers absolutely no chance of success. Maybe one day we will have player leaders who we pledge allegiance to

Elyssa got the list by exactly the way she said, I thinksprite wrote:3 Things:

Re: Is YOUR guild *REALLY* ready for outposts?
these are guilds i contacted privately because i have spoken with some of their leaderships in past engagements. i don't think i have any reason to hijack a list of guilds for anything :0). sorry if your guild wasn't listed, it's because i have no personal officer/guild leader contacts with your guild and am unfamiliar with how your guild operates.
as far as the 24 hours goes...24 hours is still a bit shy of 5 days advanced notice. maybe if there is a message spammed on the screens of everyone in a particular guild they would know their outpost is going to get attacked :0).
my point is to open up your communication some with your guildies guys :0). i am having people in those guilds contacting me saying they didn't know anything about the event, but it sounded awesome.
=====
here are some of the things i have done to try and communicate with the guild better:
- Set up a calendar with events coming up.
- MOTD macro that i change daily (this is a new one as of last week). gives upcoming day to day messages.
- Weekly meetings on sundays to discuss what's been going on the past week, and what's coming up in the future.
- Discussion thread on the forums (content is taken into the next guild meeting)
these are just some examples of how you can open communication with your guildies...though some may not be necessary if your guild isn't as large. but keeping people informed is important i think :0).

hehe i think this was part of the excersise ras m8 to show that a guild can declare war on you at any time of the day 24 hours from that time you become attackable in your outpost which will cause people to have to stay up all night to protect there outpost if needed

Re: Is YOUR guild *REALLY* ready for outposts?
We're definitely not ready.
Thanks for the invite Gfunk.
Our guild definitely needs work co-ordinating RL and Ryzom events. This was a good wake-up call.
First, I admit I didn't read my in game email until the day before the event,
and managed to post it at our website. (I wish we could cut and paste from the in game email to the clipboard. )
Then we had people traveling, at parties, other RL stuff, etc.
I finallly thought maybe the few of us remaining could bolster another team, but then found out I'd miscalculated the timezone and ran into my own RL commitments.
I hope we can get our act together for next time.

Many good points brought up here... also many good reasons for folks not to attend this. Why show your hand in respect to certain things, you HAVE to know internally that your ready... a PvP event isn't going to change that.
Coordination is the biggest thing for a guild, whether it's in a PvP fight or planning for your near/far term future. I just hope everyone is looking ahead...

Re: Is YOUR guild *REALLY* ready for outposts?
Gfunk, I am most grieved to have been the weak link in your communication with The Reapers. I take full responsibility. My brain simply stops working after about 4pm EST if I stay online. <_< Also.. I am, again, a flake.
I thought a little letter icon popped up if I received a note. But that is a lame excuse as you said you would send one.
Again, please should you desire our attendance or involvement in anyway see that the list of names I sent you.
Sorry.

Re: Is YOUR guild *REALLY* ready for outposts?
I think it's only the guild leader or who they specify that gets notified. Which I think is fair. If you lead a guild and don't have a way to keep up on info at least once a day, tough.grandma wrote: as far as the 24 hours goes...24 hours is still a bit shy of 5 days advanced notice. maybe if there is a message spammed on the screens of everyone in a particular guild they would know their outpost is going to get attacked :0).
Re: Is YOUR guild *REALLY* ready for outposts?
I think that if your guild has not got all of the things stated in this thread in order they will be wiped out. That is the point of the Whole outpost business. Believe me when 2 or 3 Guilds get evicted others will soon learn to organize things better, that no-one is actually ready for any of this will make things all the more interesting. Heh 'You snooze, you lose'..!
