'Cold Damage Over Time'...how to upgrade it?

I ment to get 'Cold Damage' but instead I bought 'Cold Damage Over Time 1'. I did not see any up grades for 'Cold Damge Over Time 1' and was wondering how to upgrade it? Can it be up graded and is it more usefull then just 'Cold Damage' spell? Did I make a 'bad' choice by picking it?

You can get stronger versions at higher levels, just like all other spells. Whether it's useful or not is debatable - I don't find much use for it, but I usually hunt solo. It might be useful in a group.

Jup, in a Team it´s OK to use. But it doesn´t do as much damage as a direct hit. Ans there´s the problem of estabishing and holding a "magical Link" between the Mob and the caster. If it works, it works ok.
But a direct hit deals direct damage.
And mostly faster.

But DoT spells, like this one, should do more damage then direct damage spells..right? If not then why bother with DoT spells?

Also, I looked again and failed to see any upgrades for 'Cold Damage Over Time'. If there is an upgrade for it..what is it?

I guess you need few more levels to get it. Press 'a' ingame and look at what level you can get that spell or upgrade.

The upgrades for Cold and Acid are 'normally' every 10 levels - except at ones like 115 where you get next to nothing (but you DO get Fire etc at 125).

My guess is the DoT upgrades will be at similar levels.

DoT have the potential to do much more damage than direct damage spells vs casting credit.

Each cast of a direct damage (DD) requires the full credit to cast.

If we say the 'hit' for a DD spell and a DoT spell are the same Lvl for Lvl. Then its all down to how long the link lasts.

When using any LINK spell, it best to slow cast. This is cast once and wait for the result. (No Link, then recast). DD casts have to practice this as the casting method is the exact opposite. repeatedly hit the spell till you get the 'Can't cast on a corpse' message.

A DoT only requires the full credit for the initial cast, and then has a much smaller 'tick' value.

Its similar to Affliction spells. People say the are 'useless' because then tend to try and use the in the 'standard' fight setup.

(Standard fight setup Tank+Healer+Nuker or Nuker + Healer)

The standard fight setup became 'Standard' because its the easiest team to build, with the fast time to kill.

I have recently be playing with Affliction spells - using a lvl 56 skill I am able to land madness (most of the time) on Great Jugs lvl 240 ish) and regularly FEAR named mobs (lvl 260!).

I guess its about finding the right situation to use them. I have heard that people are now soloing with Madness!
