I dont recommend this game.

Post by raul75 »

First Im fairly new to mmorpg games. I have played SWG, COH and now Ryzom.
The game lacks of a good ingame tutorial. The landscape is horrible, no climbing, as soon as u hit a small hill, you have to walk around it. The game tells you where to go. Landscape is also repetitive, if you walk around the forest for 30 seconds you have seen everything there is to see.
Then there is MAJOR lag, is extremely frustrating to have to quit the game every 5 minutes and relog. Eventually you get sick of it and feel less and less willing to log back in.
Clothing: well everyone is wearing the same armor, or they are running around naked. No diversity everyone looks the same.
Population: Is it just me or is the server empty? I have played daily since launch and I always see the same people.
Loot: Well there is none really, you cant loot any sweet weapons or armor.
Weapons: Well ranged weapons are horrible, you cant hit anything and the ammo is so expensive that no one uses them at all.
ANd of course the game has lots of bugs, it really feels like playing Beta. After 2 weeks of playing I got sick of it. Even that awfull game called SWG kept me interested for a few months ntil the devs killed it with the jedi.

Raul75, judging by what you say it would seem you just haven't left Refugee Island ! Basically, that means you've only seen 5% of the game (and I might be generous with the percentage there). :)

If you have read the introduction text by the welcomer NPC when you entered the game, then you have probably noticed he/she mentioned the place you're on : Refugee Island, and the continent you may go to later : Main Land. Refugee Island is only the beginning, it's a special place designed for "newbies" so that your learning curve of the game is smooth enough and you don't get killed all the time or miss important stuff. That's why you get to see always the same landscape, the same people, everyone in the same poor clothes... You're all refugees ! Of course you're poor. ^^ But that will change soon enough if you know where to go.

As for the loots, the way Ryzom works seems logical : a rat can't carry an armlet, a deer will never handle a sword ; so there's no reason why you would find such items on a dead animal. However, if you quarter raw materials on them (bones, meat, fur, claws...) you can then sell that stuff or use it to craft new weapons or armor ! You could also buy such items from merchant NPCs, but their goods aren't the best in the world - to get better equipment, you should deal with a crafter player (or learn crafting yourself if you're interested).

The landscape is all but the same - the Fyros continent is a wild desert with canyons and oases ; the Matis continent offers forests, valleys and fields ; the Zoraï continent is a deep maze-like jungle with dark areas polluted by the Goo ; the Tryker continent is made of huge lakes of crystal-clear water, lagoons and high cliffs ; not to mention the mysterious Prime Roots continent, deep underground, filled with weird animals and phosphorescent flora...

An MMORPG implies a lot of player interactions, and I can say that the current community of Ryzom players is very friendly and helpful. So if you feel lost, how about asking other players for help ? You can ask them in-game or in the forums, or simply in the Klients chat for fast feedback.

Agreed, it could definitely using a major overhaul. It's a fair start but not really enough for someone with no previous game experience or someone who won't read the manual.

As Pezito said, this tells me that you are still on the Matis Refugee Island (Matis newbie island) and are likely hitting the hill near the Karavan by the south east outpost (the name escapes me at the moment). The mainland is quite varied and each region is distinct from its neighbors, let alone the stark difference between the four continents above the bark, the four Prime Root areas below the bark and the dangerous Nexus.

Lag happens, we'll see what happens when they actually isse a fix for it which we all hope is really really soon.

Again, proof of missing the mainland. Hopefully, you'll review this thread and give the mainland a run before completely dismissing the game.

Tutorial : Yes the tutorial needs an overall, but honestly your better of asking players in regional chat, youll normally get a helpful response
Landscape : I dont see how you can judge a game after see a tiny fraction of it. The land mass in Ryzom is vast, you need to lvl up and move beyond the new player zones
Clothing : Additional item of clothing can always be added later. Its barely a week after release remember. As far as im aware there are 3 types, that you can get in a variety of qualities and differant colours.
Lag & Pop : I think its on the improve, at least last night on English Euro it was, and there were more people logged on than ive seen before. There were distribution problems as we all know, but now i think those problems are being overcome. I certainly see more people logged on every time I do.
Loot : Couple points there. Firstly id like to say there is a pretty long thread in the U.S forums regarding it, so it is being discussed. Crafting is a strong element of Ryzom and its difficult balancing act for a developer to judge between say the drop rate on complete weapons (if they chose to implement that, perhaps they have on bosses etc...im yet to venture that far) and making sure the crafters have a potential customer base for the goods they make. I think well see some further tweaking in the near future.

Just remember, the game is barely out of release. Apart from the distribution problem which has been a serious issue, i think the launch has gone reasonably well. Certainly the servers havent crashed yet, which is unusual for an MMORPG launch. Whenever theyve lagged out too bad, ive seen a warning from CS that the servers will be coming down, so you get a warning, at least, and like I say, i think the performance is improving, at least its been ok the last couple times ive logged in.

thats the funniest thing ive ever heard, one of the first things within around an hour was find the teleporter guys that take you to the new area
Haha sorry to disapoint you fellas I made it out of newbie zone the 1st day with a lvl 35.

Well I was dissapointed, and Im not willing to pay like other people ntil it "gets better", I will give it a try in a couple of months, hopefully by then there will be more to do.
