help with these crashes
Re: help with these crashes
A while ago I was getting something like that pretty often...
What seems to have fixed it is:
Opening up the computer case, blowing out all the dust, removing the RAM and reseating it.
It's getting a bit better ventilation now too. I think my comp was just hot and dirty
No guarantees that would help you of course... but it's a simple enough trick to try.

Re: help with these crashes
Try lowering the number of sound tracks to about 20 and disable EAX.
I have used this setting since beta and have never crashed.

Re: help with these crashes
Hello paradoc. I noticed you were using 64.14 driver for you nVidia 5900XT. I would try upgrading to the latest driver and see if that doesn't fix the issue. 71.89 is the latest driver for windowsXP/2000 o/s and the 5900XT, and you can download it here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.89.html
As zerlin pointed out, disabling EAX also seems to help in a lot of these cases. I also recommending using the Check Data function at the Ryzom Log In screen to make sure you don't have any corrupted or bad data files.
Hope that helps. Let us know how it is going and if any of these suggestions corrects the problem you are experiencing.
EDIT: Just read this thread by helbreat here: http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14889
I would suggest also trying those suggestions running in open GL and maybe trying the 66.93 drivers.

Re: help with these crashes
thanx for the replies.
i was using the latest driver before it started to crash so rolled it back to the one before...might try getting it again now (i have it on a disk)
already did the EAX thing and that didnt help. i now have no sound at all and now it works fine (but i have no sound
) but i cant remember doing anything to my sound card.
i also got out the small amount of dust and re fitted my RAM.
heres fingers crossed that i can get it working soon.

Re: help with these crashes
Hmmmm...........if the latest driver was causing problems and you rolled it back.........try using the 66.93 driver.....here you go: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_66.93.html
As far as sound, what sound card do you have or are you using onboard sound?

thanks for the link ill try that.
Re: help with these crashes
If the problems remains, try the small application "Memtest" to check your RAM. I had an identical problem before, i tried more or less everything without any good results. Then someone mentioned Memtest, i tried it and it appeared that i had RAM trouble. I use 2 * 512mb sticks, and i have 3 memory slots on my motherboard (i was using slot 1 and 2 for the sticks), so i switched place on RAM #2 from slot #2 to #3 and the problems disappeared. So in my case, slot #2 on the motherboard was broken :/
Good luck!
Good luck!

Re: help with these crashes
Sorry for delay in getting back to you. it seems that the problem was four problems...1st my cable modem was kicking out too much power (causing my connection to fail) 2nd my ram had reset its paging file to default so was to low (been told some windows hot fix's do that) 3rd on an update of my nortons firewall it had set itself to realtime protection (causing it to ask the game if it was a virus then shut it down) and last but not least i had a few BSOD and the error code was "bad_pool_header" which i followed advice from a "geek" website after i googled it and found that service pack 2 for xp allows Data Execution Prevention to be ticked (when its not needed) so all this is now sorted and the game now works as it did with everything cranked up and i have a smile back on my face (and i dont keep leaving my friends during a fight, which just aint that cool)
thanks for all your help guys
