ok I know crafters will flame me away but horizions tryed this craft only deadl and so did swg and it failed to entice a lot of hunters for staying to play their.
We need mission loot like swords armor etc
We need some usable drops on the npcs like armor and items.
Totaly a no loot game :( = boaring for the non crafters
Re: Totaly a no loot game :( = boaring for the non crafters
Maybe, but Fighters can always quarter items and take them to a local crafter who in turn will make that item for him/her.

Thats the VERY least we need.ariaki wrote: We need some usable drops on the npcs like armor and items.
We could need some drops that go together with more complex quests or maybe special mats that produce a certain graphics - like a NO DROP mat for example that produces a helmet which tells by the distintive looks that we killed a certain mob with our own hands.
But what we dont need is the good old *phat lewt*. No offense meant, but anyone whos into that - EQ is the game for you.

I'd like to see a combination of both to be honest. I'd like it as it is to some degree:ayne31 wrote:Thats the VERY least we need.

I like the fact that animals don't drop "A Rusty Sword", they should never drop stuff like that. Keeping it to "body parts" only on these types of mobs is fine.
However, i'd like see some drops in that game from more rare and plausible creatures, creatures that look like they "might" have a "Sword of Ultimate Slaying Doom with added sparkly effects" drops. Make them rare - really rare, make them on par with crafted weapons (or slightly less) - something to add a little more varity to the drops.
I know that it would be a huge balancing issue (crafted vs drops), but i'm sure it could be done.
However, i'm also sure that when player vendors (or such-like) are in the game, then the market for items / weapons will open up hugely.

Hunters well.. what is the reason to hunt? As far as I remember my history, hunting was to gather resources from animals, resource which could in turn be made into clothes, weapons, food and the like.
You can't have a game where Crafting and Item Drops exist together and have that game work in both aspects. If loot items suck, it's the same situation as now, you will need crafters, if crafts suck, there will be no need for crafters.
Hunters and Crafters can both exist and work with crafted items... and try to reach whatever goals the game has to offer: repel monster invasions, build an empire or whatever but if your only satisfaction with a game is to drop 'rare loot' this game might not be for you.
Re: Totaly a no loot game :( = boaring for the non crafters
Well, from what I've seen, if there's no usable drops, the *phat lewt* becomes the materials needed to make the uber thingamajig. Once everyone becomes aware of that then those spawns end up getting camped like crazy.ayne31 wrote: But what we dont need is the good old *phat lewt*. About hunting to find raw mats, animals only gives basic or fine quality materials, when harvesters brings fine, choice or even more supreme quality mats.
So harverster-fighter can have the best possible stuff. And hunter : nope.
Sure it avoid hunter-crafter self-made people, err, okay I just answered my own question.
MMmmh, it lemme think about it : Is There any specials mats dropped only by "boss" mobs, like quality over 250 or anything like this ?
I remember have seen smthing about it, like "unique item" or "gold item" in some well-known old games... but if someone can confirm it, it would be great.

Maybe they could make unique materials from named mobs... dunno, like the stinger of a named kittin that has some specific properties. But then you'd need to trust the crafter to give it back to you in an item. That could lead to more problems than I want to imagine
Re: Totaly a no loot game :( = boaring for the non crafters
Which are only beneficial for a mage up to about lvl60 at which point a higher level staff is nearly a requirement and amber based staves become much more in demand as eyes that high are rather laborious to retrieve.jdiegel wrote:Well, from what I've seen, if there's no usable drops, the *phat lewt* becomes the materials needed to make the uber thingamajig. Re: Totaly a no loot game :( = boaring for the non crafters
I too have no desire to see *phat* loot drop from creatures. However, some NPC mobs should drop mediocre armor/weapons that are usable. Even if it is only for selling it would make it more interesting to kill these mobs. Some tougher mobs should drop better choice or excellent mats and I agree that some special boss mobs should drop a unique mat. Things made out of this would define the uniqueness of an item.
I however have no wish to see something camped. I have had enough of that from games like EQ. So it should be balanced somehow.
