Fails to make final connection after character selection.

Post by rakeesh »

This has been happening to me rather a lot lately.

I'll be logging in, and can connect, select my character, and hit Play. The progress bar fills in, all except the very last triangle on the right.

Then, there I sit. Forever.

I've changed around sound and video settings. I've reset my NAT box. My files all check out, data-integrity wise. I don't need to really change anything... if I wait, fifteen minutes to an hour, the problem simply goes away. I just have to keep quitting and restarting the client.

It doesn't seem to happen always at login, either. It can start after teleporting. This morning's incident happened after teleporting to Thesos. Connection info showed "Probe" state, which lasted forever. So I quit, and tried to log in... no go.

Where can I begin to try to figure this out?

You may want to ensure that port UDP 47851 is definitely being allowed through your firewall or is being forwarded in your network device. That is the port that is used by the game once you select your character. There is a sticky up top with the FAQ on network port settings.

If you still have problems you should email mailto:?subject=&body= with the details.

I get that too ><; I hate it. My files check out, I've used the files from my 2nd toon which I can actually log into easily when I cant' with my first character.

I don't understand the port UDP 47852 could be a problem. I've been able to login before and I can after (either after restarting a gazillion times or waiting some hours. -_-; ).

I've talked to the GMs and stuff and they couldn't help but submitted a ticket to the devs to look into this. *sighs*

*pokes game* Let me login. :(

That was one of the first things I checked. I've run a sniffer (my NAT box is actually a Unix machine) and confirmed that traffic was moving back and forth. It might help performance if I were to set up a static rule, though.

One helper on Klients actually suggested that perhaps my machine is taking a bit too long to load the data and the server side is timing out. Although I'd like to think my machine is a good performer, there might be some merit to that; especially since it seems to happen more often when I tab away from the Ryzom client while it loads (thus lowering the priority of the process...)

You do have 1 gb free hard disk space?

22GB free, currently. Freshly defragged.

Turning off sound doesn't appear to make a difference, for one data point.

How about trying to reinstall? Not perfect solution but it could solve problem at hand.

I'm not sure about the loading screen but I know everything between the login and the character selection screen gets "paused" if you hit Alt *shrug*

reboot the system before you play and it will be fine

it happens to me if i use my wireless air card and then try and connect. actually it happens if i play another net aware game and try and play after.

that's the solution tho, reboot before you try and connect and you'll be fine

reinstalling is extremely doubtful, if you want to do that you can just copy your client default config to client.cfg and thats about all it will do
