Your guild can own as many as you want. But considering that your going to have to pay a daily fee to keep them running (think of it as the npc's salaries) owning a bunch would be cost prohibitive.grimjim wrote:One point, if you're only allowed one outpost each, what's to fight over?

Thats a relative statement.... The price for some may be high, but for others its dirt cheap... it would have to be comparable to the level or size or usage of the occupying guild.... err ya

I heard this idea in another thread, and although I'm not really in a place to say what should or shouldn't be in outposts...these are just cool ideas I think:
- Option to choose your type of outpost? (Fighting, Crafting) Where "fighting" outposts may need to be taken by declaring war and fighting it out and going against the fighting guards and guild. But "crafting" outposts may need to be taken by outcrafting the guild's stored materials or crafts within the window of opportunity to "take the outpost".
- Option to choose your outpost's stance... (Kami, Neutral, Karavan) (Aggressive, Neutral, Passive) maybe with "Aggressive to all except: " option to include guild/player names.

I love this idea. In fact, it may have been one of the two threads where I suggested this that you're referring to. It's still Guild vs. Guild. It still generates conflict and competition. But it also has the advantage of letting the people who like to craft and harvest take part in a conflict that they'll enjoy.grandma wrote:- Option to choose your type of outpost? Take a look here for more ideas about the different kinds of outposts.

Re: Just some quick thoughts on E3
This to me is a horrible idea. Really think about what you are saying. One guild steps up and declares war on another guild, they then sit down and have a knit-a-thon to see who can sew the fastest? That pretty much takes any realisim this game has and makes it laughable.grandma wrote: - Option to choose your type of outpost? If you build an outpost and your guild doesn't have the firepower to protect it, you can hire homins to work for you. You also have the ability to form an alliance with other guilds (like a warriors guild) to have them help you defend your outpost. That is how war works and that is how defending something works.
Besides what happens when my warriors guild goes to take over your crafting guilds outpost? Am I going to get a message saying "Sorry this outpost is reserved for crafters. If you wish to overtake it you must start crafting stuff." That's almost a Monty Python skit in the making.
I can see it now...
Knock on outpost door...
Crafting guild leader opens door... "Yes?"
Leader of warrior guild: "We are here to declare war on your guild and we plan to take over your outpost!"
Crafting Guild Leader: "Not so fast! We are a crafting guild! Your weapons will do you no good here. If you want this outpost you will have to beat this!"
Crafting guild leader moves to reveal the famous pile of 10,000 rainbow colored sox.
Warrior Guild Leader: "No... No, not the rainbow sock challange... anything but that... My men can't handle rainbow colored ones!"
Crafting Guild Leader: "The challange has been put forth. You have 24 hours to sew 10,001 rainbow colored socks. If you succeed we will hand over our fortress. If you fail you will give us all your socks!"
Warrior Guild Leader: "Curse you, you will reget the day you challanged us! Men quickly, we must setup camp and start sewing!"
Several Hours later... "You call these rainbow colored socks??? They are nothing but booties! You must sew... sew as if your first borns life depends on it!"
Warrior: "But sir... my hands... I lost my thimble... The needled keeps stabbing my flesh. I don't think I can go on."
Warrior Guild Leader: "Son you have to! We can't let the crafters hold this spot. Do it for your wife, do it for the ones you love... most of all do it in the name of Zora!"
Warrior: "My god your right..... bring me more string!"
23 hours 59 minutes later...
Knock on the crafters door..
Warrior Guild Leader: "We have met your challange... here is your 10,001 rainbow colored socks! Now hand over what is ours!"
Crafting Guild Leader: "Not so fast, what is this??????" Crafting Guild Leader picks up a sock missing one rainbow color. "One of your socks isn't rainbow colored, it's short a color!"
Warrior Guild Leader: "Curse you! Curse you to the Kitin! You have one this time. Enjoy your new rainbow socks while you can. We will be back and we will know how to sew better than you ever could"
Crafting Guild Leader: "Good day to you sir, until the next time we meet in battle"

Re: Just some quick thoughts on E3
Basically, Raynes, you're proposing to alienate the people who like to harvest and craft and don't like to do combat so much. You close your mind to even the idea of anything but fighting.
I think it's important to have a balance that allows all skillsets to participate in a meaningful way. Ideas like above are the start of this.

Re: Just some quick thoughts on E3
No I am proposing (and the devs are planning) that a guild of crafters will work with a guild of warriors to form an alliance to help each other out. If a guild does not want to fight, that is their choice. However they will need to come up with a way to protect themselves. The devs are going to give you several ways of doing that. No matter what you will not be excluded from protecting your outpost because of the type of guild you are. And as I said before, if you are really that into building and working together to build a community. And you really don't like the idea of having to protect your outpost against other players, then I suggest you look up A Tale In The Desert. You will find that the game is built around the very types of things you suggest. And there is no combat in that game.aylwyne wrote:Basically, Raynes, you're proposing to alienate the people who like to harvest and craft and don't like to do combat so much. I really don't understand this idea that if you do certain occupations in the game you should somehow be magically protected against all harm.
Re: Just some quick thoughts on E3
You seem to want to shoot down even the glimmer of an idea that doesn't center around combat. It's hard to believe this is the same Raynes that cried out for "explore content" for 2 years in EnB. I guess you've been converted over to the idea that everything has to center on combat and any suggestion otherwise, is a bad idea.
Yes, at first outposts will be only combat. But that's not to say that other ideas are invalid and won't be considered or implemented in the future.
However, if we never bring up these other ideas, they almost certainly will have no chance of making it into the game.
