hi all, from 2 days my computer has started turning of by itself while playing Ryzom, after 3 or 4 minutes of game. It does not happen while using other softs. I've been playing Ryzom for over 6 months and this never happened before. Any of you has an idea of what i can do/check ?
thanks a lot for your help

Re: comp turning of by itself
Start by checking for loose wires, dust on fans/heatsinks and malware (virus, trojan, etc.).

I've had this aswell but on another pc. now it does not happen anymore, not sure why but it only happens if ryzom runs. It can be the load on your system that causes it. I've never had a heavy software load just shutdown my system before tho

Yeppers this happens to me sometimes also, and only when playing ryzom - but it's the only thing I run that taxes my little low-spec box to its capacity and beyond. At first I thought it was just my UPS not being able to catch power brownouts, but now I think it's just something about playing the game that (very rarely) freaks my system out...

Re: comp turning of by itself
ty all for replying.
- i've reinstalled the system
- i ran an anti-virus which found nothing
- i've unplugged and replugged every cable
- and the comp still turns off by itself
it also does that with WoW (shame on me
, but runs normally with everything else (3DS max ; Avid) for exemple.
but i can't clean the fan, since it's a laptop i'm playing on.
will i ever run after the tall blue guy again ?

Something is probly wrong with your hardware. If you are using windows XP home, its probly default set to reboot, and not to show the bluescreen. I believe there is an option someware to turn it on, but don't ask me where, ask Mr. Google.
If it is a bluescreen, cross your fingers its your hdd or your memory, otherwise it will be a new labtop (or close to).

Re: comp turning of by itself
This sounds like a CPU overheating. Ryzom (and WoW I guess) are very hefty games and demand a lot from your computer. The heatsink for it may have become detached or the fan involved (if there is one) may not be running at full speed anymore. Had the same thing happen with my laptop. Thankfully I was able to get the cooling fan and replace it myself (the thing had just run out of warranty of course.) I would recommend that you get it serviced if it still under warranty. Or get someone who knows how to repair laptops to look at it if it is not warrantied.

Yesh! hadn't thought of that but seems a likely culprit... I used to overclock the systems i built out myself, but this is an off-the-shelf box... so, I'll pop it open and maybe upgrade the heat sink with one of my old monsters, if the one in there doesn't look adequate to the task. Thanks for the idea m8!Zerlin wrote:This sounds like a CPU overheating...

Re: comp turning of by itself
Oh, a laptop. Gets a bit more tricky then.
Overheating; most newer hardware have temp. monitors and software to display that on screen (and even log to file). Check for your hardware.
It could still be the PSU, battery and (in worst cases) internal power circuits.
Have you tried with another (online) game?
Don't have to be new, if it is a temp or power problem...
