My fears with it is that we all will play lots of user made "mods" or what to call it. Theese custom made maps with almost unlimited acces to the full arsenal of gear and flora, will they reveal everything now so we have nothing to discover?. Will we spend our time in each others own universes and stop caring about the "original" game? Like go from singleplayer games on half life to play smaller maps against eachother online in a counterstrike mod hehe :p

Well as Sky said, is this because the developers themselves cant create missions and immersive content for us? I think about it aswell, but Im still sorta satisfied with the rituals and encyclopedia etc.. I just dont want it to turn into something we create for ourselves and deviate from the paths and saga of the living planet...

It will certainly be fun to fool around with in the beginning thats for sure, comparing to what has ben available to do and what you could manipulate before in the atys world, this is truly a revolution...

On the other hand, that trailer had some interesting elements that I truly wonder what will be carried out with. Just eyecandy or new and refreshing additions to the game. Somehow it seems crazilly big all of a sudden! They are about to release outpost, those strange creatures and ass kicking karavan in power armor and rifles, a whole new feel to the factions. And on top of that at a later point ryzom ring? Damn, things are boiling under the lid. Feels unreal actually hehe...

Just to clear things up.

The Ryzom Ring idea is to give players the power to create their own instances based upon exsisting lands of Atys. They will be accessed through teleporters. There is a completely seperate team working on the expansion than the normal game so don't think for a minute that main game will be given any less attention.

So in short the main game is not going to change. The thing that will change is that there will be new player instances to visit.

I think the tools are developed to sell to companies and organisations who want to create a MMORPG. We get to test them for nevrax like we test NeL. They get the profit from selling/leasing the NeL client, server software, tools and now the content creation client.

And to comment on what sky said about the development of this content client, I to think they don't have the manpower to do both effeciently. we are waiting for the encyclopedia to be availible, new rites to occupy us with and the devlopment of the storyline. (oh and outposts, but I'm not optimistic or care much for pvp)

Yes I'm worried, nevrax go's form one empty promise to another. The vision that is availible on the ryzom site is a nice vision, kind of like world peace :p There are still alot of things not implemented/half implemented or just forgotten to implement. If ryzom was a car it would look cool and fast but if you wanted to drive it you notice it has a max speed of 20Km (~15M) the steeringwheel does not turn and the breaks lock up randomly. Beside the car are 2 beautifull girls showing off their but's and boobs and we all think it looks awsome.

However I love mucking about with crappy stuff so I'm still hooked ;)

No your not understanding what they are doing. The "tools" they are going to develop for the Ryzom ring aren't going to be developer tools. They are going to be simple gui tools that allow the common game player to create an instance within ryzom. Think of neverwinter nights or simcity. I can assure you that we are doing more than testing NEL with Ryzom.

Neverwinter nights scripting was too complex for me, largely because the interface and what each script actually DID was a bit impenetrable.

And those were the tools used to make a lot of the content, just with added wizards.

If there's scripting, which there'd have to be for much of what's mentioned, then there will be a level of complexity.

If R2 will be something like:

1. Select name and write introduction text
2. Select game type (pvp on / off)
3. select premade map
4. select mobs for couple of spawns at predetermined hotspots
5. insert npc character that you can play yourself (only for invite only instances)

it will be major disappointment.

On the other hand, if it something like Neverwinter Nights tools, it will be great. I hope it would be a bit simpler to use though :)

From what I was told the goal is to make them similar to Neverwinter Nights and to make them as simple as possible.

Well think about it... insted of a small team doing content, how about 20% of the player mass doing it for them.

Whats a lot of money and time saved

Kinda similar to Spore or what ever it was. Had something to do with the maker of SimCity. Read the article so long ago, though, I forget the specifics.
