Well, at first I was (like I guess most of the people) very excited, but ...
A few things worry me:
- The area that you play on will get bigger, making everything seem empty
- Huge possibilities for exploits. You can make a map with only q250 supreme big shells, suprme zun, ... and (almost) no mobs, and start digging. Or you can put a boss on it you'd like to have the mats from, ...
There is a big potential with this ryzom ring idea, but it could ruin the game to ..
Anyone else a bit worried about th Ryzom ring thingy?

I'm sure there will be restrictions. We just dont have all the info yet.

That occurred to me too. The obvious solution would be to let you select the "color" of the land you're building (blue, red, purple, etc) and enforce a certain minimum number of carnivores. You want q250 mats in your land, then you gotta have purple carnies running around.mrozzy wrote:

good point.... and the number of mats directly corresponds with the number of carnivores. Like 2 vorax for every sup 250 node... (or whatever the ratio is)
also, will we be able to edit MOB specs, like HP and damage and loot...? We'll see.

As I said on the other thread. Until I see solid prove of anything I consider it a big rouse to keep hopes up. They can't even deliver simple quests made up by themselfes in a timely fashion. How do you expect them to give player tools to create parts of the world and still keep control over it?
I predict that not 1 day after such a toolset is released (in the rare event that it really is working) the first exploit will be discovered. In the subsequent week the server will be overloaded by so much crap (you can't develop player made content in a week, but everyone will want to test his own creations asap and will want to show it of to his friends as well) that they will have to disable this whole thing and put it where it belongs into the developers dreams garbage can.
Everyone has his own ideas. How can the world still be consistent afterwards? If there are people responsible for controlling consistency those whose work will be rejected will be upset. Understandably.
Exploits, Unbalancing and TopStating might not be an issue in an offline game where the only one to cheat is yourself. But in an MMO it is a major issue as players constantly compare themselves to others.
Personally I don't expect this to make is beyond the drawing boards but I won't be troubled if it even makes it to life, because I won't be part of that.
Ryzom is definately not developing into the game I tought and hoped it will.

hmmm, pessimistic much? lol
Those are alll valid points, Sky. But as Vince Vaugh would say, "Stop hat'ing, start participat'ing".
;")
Oh and trust me, you don't see it now, but modding is a wonderful thing, if it does ever DO come out of the drawing board (the tools i mean).

Just tired of senseless grinding. I had much hopes for a pleasant surprise at E3, but this soap bubble didn't make me happy an ounce.vinnyq wrote:hmmm, pessimistic much? lol
I want something new NOW and not in 2 or 3 years. I mean something else then a hurridly pushed together web page.

Re: Anyone else a bit worried about th Ryzom ring thingy?
Most of fears can be avoided by few precautions:
- user content runs on servers completely dedicated for that (or players own servers but that would be too limiting IMO)
- When character/team enters to user area, just a copy of character is transfered to new server. Changes to character won't be copied back to official server
- If anything horrible happens, game continues just previous to entering user content
- some kind of user rating system so players can find content that is not complete crap (most of user content is going to be crap)
- user content is clearly separated from official content. You should not be accidentally wander to some user area
- testing of toolkit and whole concept with selected group of players (not same as ats)
Some of the highly rated content could be later moved to official servers and then being seamless part of Atys.
EDIT: cleared testing statement a bit

That's probably going to be Outposts and new rites in a couple of months. I doubt they're news worthy enough for Nevrax to announce them at E3 (especially since they were promised as part of the original release).I want something new NOW and not in 2 or 3 years. Re: Anyone else a bit worried about th Ryzom ring thingy?
The way I look at it, they probably didn't have time to do any quests/events/story development/etc. because they were busy working on the tools to allow the playerbase to do these things.
One of the big upsides I see is that if they're making tools that are good enough for the general public to use to design content, then that's also probably going to make it tons faster for Nevrax to add content themselves.
I've read over and over again that one of the weak areas in most mmorpgs are the tools that allow easy creation of content. Naturally, these tools usually take a back seat to the core game engine and design itself. That's a big factor in why most games are plagued by "lack of new content". It's because they don't have easy interfaces that allow people that aren't core developers to add content. So they get stuck in a situation where only the core team of developers can add content but they're too busy fixing bugs and working on the underlying mechanics to create content.
It seems like Nevrax has devoted a significant part of this past year's new development effort on solving this exact problem. Unfortunately, the players have been the ones to pay the price by playing in a fairly stagnant world.
If they throw these tools out there and rely on the players to create all of the content, then I don't think it's going to improve things vastly for many of the same reasons people have already posted. However, if their plan is to turn part of their development team over to using these tools to create new "official" content, then I think it could be a HUGE improvement. It could mean we'll finally be getting the regular content and storyline updates in the game that were initially advertised.
