They gathered 'round as darkness fell
as weariness conquered their eyes,
around the flame there were stories to tell
of daunting death and homins' cries.
"That fateful day," one began
as the weariness vanished from his eyes
"when the Kinchers came from all around
and brought about our demise.
'Twas a fine evening, much like this,
I stood by a desk, waiting to enlist
an army of homins; they would not halt
they were eager to quell the Kitin assault.
One and all, small and tall
they came from all the lands.
Some great warriors, who stirred up a brawl
then the foragers who held out their hands.
When offered a blade, yes, they took it
even though they could not use it
to any degree, other than
the shearing of moss or painting the sand.
Then, suddenly out of the shadows
came the Kinchers.
without any mercy they slaughtered and pierced,
and though my army was brave and fierce,
they stood no chance against the advance.
Then, a Kincher shot me a glance.
I fled in terror, discarding my lance.
Far away, I heard them roar
They would not stop 'till they reached my door
and took their revenge because I survived."
And after he spoke, the audience strived
to imagine the place of utter discrace
where their leader's army had been defeated.
They shifted into a dark dream
where the Kinchers came, a whole regime.
But wait! This is not a dream!
"The Kinchers are upon us!" one let out a scream.
The lightening pulsed, blades slashed
The mandibles swung, bones smashed.
To no avail, though, did they fight
for when it was over, not a soul lay in sight.
The kinchers had taken their revenge, on that fateful day.
The great leader had no reply,on the sand his body lay.
